Hannah (Hannah, Fully) (hannahfully) | 10 comments I feel like it would be helpful to have a general chatter area in case some of us prefer GR over chatting in Habitica (plus it's a lot smaller so maybe some people are more comfortable here) instead of taking up Introductions, haha. :)

(On a side note, maybe Introduce Yourself could be changed to General? I really have no clue where to put this thread into lol)

Continuing discussion from that thread, I usually use an app (that I downloaded last year so while I could import I figured it would be better to start from a blank slate) to help me organize what I want to read next since I'm the exact same as Megan and don't really have a very efficient system (and too much work)

Emma | 5 comments Hi Sophia,

Yeah, I was beginning to wonder if we were taking up too much space on the Intro thread and whether other people would start to get annoyed by the notifications.

I've added a couple of book shelves thanks to the ideas from Megan about creating custom shelves.

At the moment I'm reading "The Elephant Vanishes" by Haruki Murakami and, thanks to challenges from Habitica, I'm also starting to work my way through "The Sea, The Sea" - Iris Murdoch, which I started sooo many years ago. After that I have no idea and I'm really looking forward to heading back to my parents for a visit soon so I can refresh my bookshelves with some of the many books I've left at their place. At which point I may have to rearrange my numbering system based on what I bring back from there :)

Yeah, I was wondering too!

Custom shelves have been super helpful on Goodreads - I love them a lot.

I haven't been reading a lot from the challenges on Habitica; I blog about books so most of my focus has been admittedly trying to catch up on older review copies. 😅

Hope you enjoy visiting your parents! (And good luck with rearranging your system/refreshing your bookshelves)

It's nice to have a home for general chatter :)

I am always interested in different ways to organize my TBR/Fiction Looks Interesting piles. Any advice is welcome.

What app are you using, Sophia?

Sarah (calypte) | 36 comments Excellent idea on the 'general chatter', thank you :)

I use an app called ReadMore! It's similar to Bookly if you've used it before (Bookly is nice as well, but I find ReadMore suits my needs better).

I'll have to check it out! Thanks :)

Elena Kho (elkho) | 4 comments thank you for this thread! I'm happy to stumble upon this group because most of the readers I know don't use Goodreads and pulling their books recommendations or impressions from them is like pulling teeth. So for the longest time I had three active people in my feed, and while I love all of their updates it was getting a wee repetitive. Looking forward to learn from you guys!

Aww, I'm glad you found us! <3 I promise I try to be active (you'll at least see me chatting in here if it's active or liking other things when I do pop in), though I have a habit of marking books as starting and then marking it as finishing without progress between lol

message 10: by Emma (new)

Emma | 5 comments I also tend to just mark started and finishing. I sometimes update what page I'm on but I'm afraid I rarely offer comments while reading. I guess I want to finish reading before I've formed/expressed my opinions.

But if other people are ok with that info coming up on their thread then who am I to stop them :D

message 11: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (Hannah, Fully) (hannahfully) | 10 comments That's completely fair! I usually don't either since sometimes my thoughts might end up spoiler-y rather than when forming thoughts at the end after finishing lol

Megan, Empress of the Literary Kingdom, Conqueror of the Histories (myersml) | 7 comments Y'all I need to stop watching BookTubers. I'm never going to make it through my TBR lists. (T▽T)

message 13: by Elena (new)

Elena Kho (elkho) | 4 comments erm, I didn't even realize the progress updates were supposed to be commented :D

You totally don't have to. I know some people do in order to give a kind of running commentary as they're reading but I don't. I used to update my progress in pages as I was reading but I've stopped doing that most of the time unless it's a really thick book or if it's taking me ages to read it and I want to feel like I'm making SOME progress on it :)

message 15: by Elena (new)

Elena Kho (elkho) | 4 comments yeah, that's totally how l how or why I update my progress, too :) but come to think of it, it does make sense when you're rereading a book
