Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments Share anything you would like to share about your experiences reading or watching anything by Lucy Maud Montgomery. i.e. How old were you when you first read Anne of Green Gables? Do you have a favorite adaptation? What else have you read besides Anne prior to this challenge?
Have you ever visited Prince Edward Island? Would you like to?

Kaitlin Jundt (kkjundt) | 8 comments I grew up watching the Sullivan Entertainment version of Anne of Green Gables as well as the series Road to Avonlea. My sisters and I checked out the three Anne movies from the library at least once a year. The first time I read Anne of Green Gables I was in high school. I read the whole series into my college years. I discovered that I loved L.M. Montgomery's writing, so I ordered a bunch of her other novels from an online used bookstore.
I've read The Story Girl, The Golden Road, Chronicles of Avonlea, Further Chronicles of Avonlea, Jane of Lantern Hill, The Blue Castle, and Kilmeny of the Orchard.
It is my dream to visit PEI! I think my husband is tired of me asking to go there! :)

Melinda | 45 comments I started reading the Anne books years ago, reading one every Canada Day (July 1) until I was done. This year I read the graphic novel of Anne of Green Gables. I realize I was in my 50s when I first read these however I’m sure they were read to me while I was a child.

Anne Upton | 1 comments I was named after Anne of Green Gables as they were my mother's favourite books, which I inherited when she died. I can't remember how old I was when I first read them but fairly young and I was also given a copy of Jane of Lantern Hill when I was about 10, which I absolutely loved and have just re-read. I must have known this challenge was coming up. Strangely I have never read any of the other titles although I do own quite a lot of them so this will encourage me to read some of them. I loved the adaptations of the books with Megan Follows and also an earlier TV series on the BBC with Kim Braden as Anne.

Donna | 95 comments Hello, Elizabeth and everyone. So interesting reading everyone's experiences with Anne of Green Gables above. I came to Anne well into my adult years when I saw Megan Follows in 1985 when it first appeared on TV. I was most captivated by the roll of Marilla as played by Colleen Dewhurst, a great actor. I loved Richard Farnsworth playing Matthew as well. I did rewatch this 1985 production earlier this year.

I have not read any of the books however or anything by L. M. Montgomery. Hope to be able to with this challenge.

Kami | 8 comments I read the Anne books starting January of this year. Watched the Netflix series and have continued with her other books. I love LMM so much and have enjoyed learning more of her life and writings ✍️

Annie O'Brien | 18 comments I've read all her novels and 1 of her journals and an autobiography. I did not start reading them until 3 years ago. I've watched the Sullivan Anne series and also The Road to Avonlea series which I loved. I borrowed those from our local libraries. Her short stories are on my TBR now. I can never get enough of her writings. They are such feel good stories. I cry every time I watch Anne of Green Gables but happy tears mostly.

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments I have not read any of the journals yet. But about 20ish years ago, my mom told me I should read Anne of Green Gables. She had just read it for the first time and bought both of us a box set. After I finished the Anne books I had to read everything I could find by LMM. After I had exhausted everything that my library had, I took advantage of Interlibrary loan to get all of the short story collections that they didn't have. Eventually I started collecting the books myself.

Annie O'Brien | 18 comments Just wanted to let everyone know that many of her books are on free Kindle. The Short Stories go by years and all of the Anne books are there. I haven't checked on anything else.

Kami | 8 comments Librivox has quite a few of LMM books for free.

Kaitlin Jundt (kkjundt) | 8 comments I just finished Magic for Marigold! What a great read! Not my favorite of Montgomery's but still had some great humor and interesting characters. Of all the Montgomery heroines that I've read, Marigold reminded me of me when I was a little girl. A big imagination but lots of "what ifs" and anxiety about silly things!
