hey! so I'm on chapter two currently and ya this book seems really funny. but also is giving a lot of info on problems faced by POC. seems good by far
Hi Nishita, glad to hear it starts off good. I'm looking forward to starting it. I want to finish my current read as I'm at 90%, so will probably start 7 Days tomorrow.
Hey guys! How are u all... I'm just checking in to see how u guys are doing.I'm totally buried in work till Oct end. So I'm sorry that I can't join u all... just waiting for the season to end and join u guys back... miss u all!!!
Hey Vanessa, we've missed you! Oh no, sorry to hear you are still swamped. October is not too far away though, it will come by faster than you think. All good on my end, looking forward to summer here haha...we had so much rain this winter, I want some sunshine.
Make a list of books you want us to read :)
Check in when you can!
Hi Vanessa! We miss you!!! Hope everything is going well, sometimes busy can be a great thing and then other times...... And yes the book starts off really funny.
Read the first 3 chapters and you are right, it does start off funny.I like Eva's daughter Audre, she is sassy haha
okay cool! I'm on chapter 5 and will probably take a break for today once I finish :) i like it so far! i like the mother/daughter relationship!
Read more than me haha but will make a bit more progress tonightMe and my husband have been binging Stranger Things so my reading time has dropped lol
Yeah, its really good. We're at the 4th season now, 3 episodes left. We've been watching about 2 or 3 episodes per evening haha
I'm gonna start chapter 13 now and by far it's been great. characters have been sharing a bit of their trauma which is quite emotional. I'm really liking Shane by far seems like a great guy.
I stopped at chapter 10 last night. I am enjoying it so far too. Both Shane and Eva have struggles and trauma. I liked the moment they first met but also when they saw each other again after so many years.
Nishita, I'm not that far but when I was briefly introduced to him, he seemed like a sweet guy :) I'm glad you're liking it! I'm excited to catch up
Haha, I know, that was cuteBut there is also a lot of unpacked issues in their past...curious to see what happened
there are! I'm on chapter 9 and they're going back and forth with each other. it's kinda funny to me because the language they're using is so dramatic and I'm having a hard time picturing real people talk like this! but i mean they're both writers so i guess it makes sense lok
right! It seems like they both went through something and somehow imploded together. She seems to bottle things in and keep everything to herself all the time. I think her daughter is such a good influence in a way - being able to psychoanalyze her lol
I got that same impression too. Yeah, really like her daughter...I mean she is a junior therapist lol
yeah I like the writing too!! and I like the different relationships between the characters. I think my favorite is her daughter lol, she's so funny!
yes the writing's really great. it's easy going so doesn't bore anyone. and ya shane and eva's conversations seem to consist of very intellectual words but that's how writers talk I guess. absolutely love Audrey she's so mature.
but this book keeps getting emotional now. i feel really bad for them. I'm quite ahead so I don't want to spoil anything but when Eva talks about her previous generations absolutely enjoyed that part.
also Audrey seems way advanced in studies. it kinda scares me. she's like the child from the movie Gifted
Really like the dynamic between Eva and Audre for sure. I'm at 40%, getting a bit more of their past and I am curious to find more about their back stories.
I can understand that they both came from difficult backgrounds and there is definitely a connection there even after so many years.
I do have to admit though that I'm not a huge fan of insta love in general lol But I do like both our main characters so far
Yeah there's definitely a good background between Genevieve and Shane. Lol Audre is definitely sassy too. I'm like halfway through it but I do enjoy it because it's a light read.
Ya Corina I agree even I'm not a fan of insta love but the mcs are good enough so it's fine. really enjoying this read honestly.
I'm enjoying it too...I do also appreciate the more serious themes in it for sure. Can't remember the chapter number, but I left it at about 52% last night. I must say that I didn't expect what happened in the last chapter I read to happen that quickly...trying to be a bit vague lol
I'm just happy to be actually reading again in a rhythm. School has been crazy but I've been on break and we've been moving into a fixer upper so it's been crazy here on my end for a while now haha thanks for putting up with me guys
All good, Courtney! Life can get crazy sometimes. Fixer upper...wow, brave of you. I'm guessing its both hard and satisfying at the same time.
Haha, well we did it because inflation is so high right now in the states and I just can't imagine spending $1500-2000 a month and renting a place that in the end, our money just went nowhere beneficial for us. So, we're fixing an apartment off my parents house, like a mother in law suite on the back of their property so we can build up our own place and actually be spending money towards something we are going to keep.
Wow...crazy prices. But then again, NZ is super expensive in general as well. Its great you're fixing it up and yeah, at least that would be yours. I love to see the before and after photos of fixing a place up.
We actually don't own our place, but its included in my husband's contract, so thats a plus. We actually can't buy either at the moment cause we are not residents. We were planning to apply in 2020, then bloody Covid happened and they didn't take any residency applications until this year in March. So now, its a long waiting game lol
Listened to a bit more of the book this morning at work. Reveal on what happened 15 years prior and how come they lost touch.
Yes, definitely do. I dont think I am very good at DIY in general, but I like to see lolMy parents arrive end of October, so just a little under 2 months, not long now
Nishita! I agree, Audre is so precocious!! I wouldn't know if you were spelling it incorrectly lol, I'm listening to the audiobook :)Congrats Courtney!! that sounds so nice! I would love to see as well!
Corina, is this going to be your first time seeing them again since the start of the pandemic?
Last time I saw them was October 2019, so a bit before the pandemic. They actually have only seen my little man through facetime cause he was born in 2020.
Finished the book tonight. It was good, I liked the character dynamics and appreciated the darker themes. Like I said earlier, I'm not a fan of insta love, but I thought this was one of the better ones I guess. I dont want to reveal anything, so I will leave it at that.
