Announcing the Tag for September
Yippee! As much as I like reading challenges, I appreciate the flexibility right now. I already have some recommendations from other group members in my audible account, so that will be a good start.
Good for zombies!I was feeling zombies....did someone suggest a mini zombie read or buddy read? I would be up for a mini zombie read as long as I can read whatever zombie book I want. Could simply be a buddy read of Zombie lit.
This should be fun! I love the idea of reading off each other's Favorite shelves. Our very own PBT Annual Top 10 Lists is also a great resource for the tag: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
annapi wrote: "Darn, zombies would have been easier to find a masthead for LOL."Oh, I didn't even think of that! You do a great job every month on the banner, Anna, so I'm sure you'll come up with something spectacular!
annapi wrote: "Darn, zombies would have been easier to find a masthead for LOL."Maybe you could get images relevant to several genres, and include a zombie in the group?
I am happy about that, but I did finally decide what I would read if Zombies won. I will be reading The House in the Cerulean Sea because so many here at PBT have loved it. After that I might look for other favorites from members here.
One of my book groups is reading Lessons in Chemistry in September, so I guess I have my favorites book.Because I still haven't read a Stephen King book, I am thinking I will read Cell in honor of zombies!
I do not have a "favorites shelf" But anything on my shelves rated 5 stars is considered a favorite. I will be cruising the shelves of anyone who is my friend to find of favorite of theirs
It wasn't so hard to do - to figure out people who are like readers and even if they don't have a shelf (mine is goodreads-favorites), see if there is something they gave five stars to, etc. I think I have four books for this month that are favorites of folks in our group that are also high on my TBR. I can't wait to see what the Trim number is. I am going to check in on Charlotte, just in case she didn't get my message from a week ago.

I'm going to go check out your goodreads- favorites shelf now :)

Here is a link to my favorites: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...I would welcome anyone recommending one of their favorites after reviewing my favorites. Understand if no one has any suggestions back to me, as my list is pretty much a “typical male list” as my favorite Aunt once told me.
Congrats to all who voted for Favorites.Good job zombies for not coming in third like I thought it would.
I started school again so I’m not sure I’ll have much reading time. If I do, I’m going with my Favorite Zombie Movie adaptation choice so I hit all three tags. 😂 I’ll read Warm Bodies if I can get to it.
PS: I do have a “Favorites” shelf if anyone’s interested in reading one of mine. It’s pretty much all YA, except for Dune and a few adult romances. Here’s the link: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I did a shelf compare of what I've read to your to read and have a handful of favorites on your TBR:
Killing Floor by Lee Child - I rated it 5 stars and this is my husband's favorite series.
Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson - I did the audio and literally laughed out loud multiple times. She's become one of my favorite authors and helped me through a really tough time with grief.
Dune by Frank Herbert - So. Good.
Michael Connelly writes one of my favorite universes... so anything of his in the Harry Bosch universe.
Here is my favorites list:https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
But as someone else said any 5 star from me is good as I don't give them out that often.
That’s a favorite of mine, Shelley!!!!Charlotte, you really did pull out so many favorites of mine! I feel warm inside!
My "favorite" list ... though I haven't used the tag for a few years now. (After I decided that - for me - to be a favorite it had to be a book I'd read multiple times and still rated highly.)
Charlie wrote: "Here is a link to my favorites: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...I would welcome anyone recommending one of their favorites after revie..."
Neither of these books is on my "favorite" list but I've read each more than once and they've both been tagged "favorites" by numerous readers:
True Grit by Charles Portis
A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J Gaines
@Charlie - I took a quick look at yours and have read and loved many! Some suggestions:
John D. MacDonald - Travis McGee series - latest reissues have an intro by Lee Child. If not for MacDobald, no Lee Childs, Carl Hiaasen, or many others. Still read well 60 years later.
Appetite for America: How Visionary Businessman Fred Harvey Built a Railroad Hospitality Empire That Civilized the Wild West - a page turner filled with old west, railroad barons, and adventure

The one I least wanted but the one I expected would win. Not sure what I'll do with this...
annapi wrote: "Darn, zombies would have been easier to find a masthead for LOL."LOL! Yes, it would have!
Yes, this takes you to LibraryThing, but this is my more up-to-date favourites list than you'll find here. MUCH more up to date. https://www.librarything.com/catalog/...
I don’t have a favorites list but I only give a feeling 5 star ratings a year, so you could use that as a guide. We then anyone can access my books, not just GR friends, I do have childrens books included.
One of my four books for next month, I got from your list Joy. Of which we share quite a few. From your list I am reading My Real Name is Hanna.
John, you and I have an incredible amount of favorite books in common. I was surprised to see the sheer number of commonalities of favorite books. I hadn’t picked up on that yet. I am adding you as one who named Addie La Rue as a favorite, and I found one from your list that’s on my TBR. I likely won’t have time for it, but in your honor I’m on my TBR list.
Cindy, my friend whose recommendations I really trust just mentioned a Town Called Solace! Also, there is an older book on my TBR that no one had ever heard of that you had listed. I was shocked! I’m raising that on my TBR as well. You guys are giving me great pleasure in playing around on my phone TBR.
What a great idea of sharing our favorites lists! Here is mine from past years. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...My growing 2022 favorites list is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
@Charlie ...Another recommendation for you ... and this one IS on my "favorite" list
Peace Like a River by Leif Enger.
Amy wrote: "Charlotte, you really did pull out so many favorites of mine! I feel warm inside!"@Amy - I know we usually feel about the same on books so you are my guide on this one :) . So many of your favorite books are on my TBR list and the list above are the ones that I own, so super easy!

I like this idea, a kinda free-for-all zombie read-along.
This is a link to my favorites shelf. It has quite a few children's books which means that I never finished removing them after I created my 'Childhood favorites' shelf. I'm with BC. I try not to tag a book as a favorite unless I've read it multiple times. Jgrace - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
I'm thinking of choosing from these shelves.
Denizen - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Regina - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Well I have a book in the 'reading in next month or so' TBR of print books by my sofa that I know is on several PBT member favorites lists without even checking and that will be my definite read for monthly tag: The Lincoln Highway. I now will wait until Sept. 1 to start. Which is fine as I will just read the Feminerdy pick for September now: The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty. It is a chunkster and I am so in the mood for it!

Charlie - thanks for your link. It makes me think that I should do something of the same nature. Each year I look for "my best readings" during the year - I just never though of putting all my best together. Thanks for the insight. peace, janz
Charlie, I just finished one you might enjoy:The Cruel Sea. I haven't written a review yet but I'm giving it 5 stars.
Not sure what I'll read but I'm sure I'll find something. If anyone who likes zombies has a favourites shelf.....let me know. Still feeling like a zombie so wanting to read about kindred spirits.I also have a favourites shelf so people are welcome to use it. All 5* except a couple which I gave 4* then kept thinking about them. It's a bit eclectic ranging from a book on Dryopteris affinis (ferns; because my dad wrote it and it was published just after he died), glass invertebrates, psychology, physics and biology to Dean Koontz, YA, and some more normal favourites. If I like it I like it no matter the genre but don't go looking for romance.
Here's one that I was reminded of today (someone "liked" my review). I didn't tag it "favorite" but 19 people have tagged it!Under This Unbroken Sky by Shandi Mitchell
It's a little-known gem of a book. Only about 1500 GR ratings.

Thanks, BC, I will probably use something from your list since I know we have a lot of tastes in common.
I want to say that a favorite of BC's is also on Barack Obama's favorites list. Which is the Sweetness of Water. I almost picked that to read as well, but I am saving it for my book club. Also on BO's favorites list is Candy House, which I think Anita really loved as well. Also saving that for my book club, but it did take it out of the library just in case.
Another one that is a favorite of BC's which has been sitting on my TBR since 2017, which I could have picked up, is The hummingbird's Daughter. I can't wait to someday read that. That is also a favorite of hers.

I have a favorites list that is a subset of my 5 star reads. I have only included the first volume in a series if I loved the whole series. If you see a later volume listed it is because that volume stood out and probably the rest got 4s. Other than series books, the favorites list tends to have more unique books. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
