Kate S | 6459 comments William Faulkner (born September 25, 1897) was featured on a US Postage stamp issued August 3, 1987. Read a book by an author who has appeared on a postage stamp in any country. (See help thread for a pre-approved list.)

Please post any questions/comments about task 20.5 in this thread.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I was able to compile the below list via a google search for "authors on postage stamps". I don't in any way think all were found, and you may benefit from your own search.

These authors are pre-approved:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

See also (many may not be on the above list): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Magda Szubanski

Yes, she's a comedian but she's also written some children's books so she counts as "author on postage stamps", right?

Valerie Brown | 3305 comments A few Canadian authors that have been on stamps:

Margaret Atwood
Morley Callaghan
Leonard Cohen
Anne Hebert
Margaret Laurence
Stephen Leacock
W. O. Mitchell
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Susanna Moodie
Gabrielle Roy

There may be others, of course, but these are the ones I recognized on wikipedia's list of people on Canadian stamps.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Tien wrote: "Sooo... I'm being difficult (what else is new...)."

haha! Not difficult at all! Yes, let's get some more authors on the list!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Valerie wrote: "A few Canadian authors that have been on stamps:"

Yay! The US puts only dead people on stamps. When I was collecting authors, I noticed Canada doesn't have this restriction. I think Margaret Atwood was already on the list. I'll look to see which others we can add!

EDIT: No, she wasn't. I thought I saw her when I was compiling the list. Happy to have added all of these.

Joanna (walker) | 2322 comments I'm considering this book: Gigi and The Cat.

It looks to me like Gigi was published in 1944 and The Cat (La Chatte) in 1933.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colette

Does this qualify for 10 oldies points?

Yes. I have corrected the original pub date for the book page, which should be reflected in a day or two.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Great, Rosemary! Those authors are now on the list.

Ok. But also posting these for other people too. I often look at these questions to get ideas for books

Rosemary | 4384 comments Does it have to be a picture of the author him/herself? I have found all of these commemorating the work of William Morris, but none of them have his actual portrait:

This task should be for the author or his literary works. These are depictions of his designs, so they won't work.
