I would like to nominate Momo by Michael Ende. This is not a new book and most people know his more famous The Never-Ending Story, but I prefer this book. It's a wonderful, timeless story of a young (homeless) girl who saves the world from the grey men who are stealing time. Never was there a more timely story. (Sorry for all the puns). There is a paperback and an audiobook available in English, but no ebook, as far as I can tell. I did find it at my library through Libby. It is also available as a PDF document on Scribd.com but I'm not sure about the legality of that.
i'd like to nominate Max - originally written in French and translated to Englishthe default description is in French on GR - but here is what amazon says:
Nazi Germany 1936. The Lebensborn program is going strong as German women are carefully selected by the Nazis and recruited to give birth to new representatives of the Aryan race. Inside one of these women is Max, a fetus waiting to be born and fulfill his destiny as the perfect Aryan.
Max is taken away from his birth mother as soon as he enters the world. He will be raised under the leadership and ideologies of the Nazi Party. As he grows up without a mom, without any affection or tenderness, according to Nazi educational precepts, he soon becomes the mascot of the program. But things don't go according to plan.
Originally published in French, Sarah Cohen-Scali's touching, illuminating, and heartbreaking book has been translated for an English-speaking audience.
I will nominate The Gray House by Mariam Petrosyan.I've owned it for a while and hope to read it sooner rather than later.
@Gina - none of these books fits the subject for the group read (a YA book that has been translated)
@Gina- As Dee said, none of these books fit the theme, several are already on our group shelf, and the rules clearly state you can only nominate one book.
@Everyone-
Y'all have a few more days to nominate books. We could use 1 or 2 more nominations.

I nominate Ruby Red. Originally published in German."

In October we will once again be teaming up with the ACROSS the SPECTRUM Challenge by reading a Book in Translation. We are asking y’all to nominate YA books that have been translate into English from another language. Please avoid nominating books that are already on the YA-MA BOOK SHELF. Also you must follow the standard nominating rules (see below).
Nominating Rules:
- Nomination Period: Starts September 5 and will stay open for 7 days or until we have 4 valid nominations.
- One nomination per member.
- All nominations need to be classified as YA unless the nominating category specifically allows exceptions.
- Books must be first in a series or a standalone.
- Books must be at least 3 months old.
- Books must be available in print and not just ebook form. It is helpful to nominate books that are easy to access; so that, members do not struggle to acquire the book if it wins in the polls.
- No author promotions allowed.
- The top 5 nominations will be in the polls.
Next Steps: After nominations, the books will go to a poll for 7 days to determine the winner.
Here are some YA book lists to help you begin a search for nominations:
