This book is really good! You are in for a treat! I might be reading Nettle & Bone with another group in October!

The first lines of the book sound just like the first lines of Fairy Tale by King haha, I was hoping it would be in a similar vein, really in the mood for that.
This is also available as ebook and audiobook on Scribd. (it's like a version of Amazon's Kindle Unlimited :) )

The Twisted Ones is SO good! If I can't get into the book I'm going to start tomorrow, can I join you? it will be a re-read for me.

I really like Kingfisher's retelling of older horror stories, and thought The Twisted Ones did Machen justice. Also, Mouse is a hilarious narrator.
Same. Got to the beginning of Ch 3 tonight. I really like the main character so far. I think Mouse would be someone that I would be friends with. And, in that one bedroom, if I’d saw all the (view spoiler)

I think so too. Being a reread, the signs are all there as to what’s going on. But I certainly didn’t notice them the first time I read it.

Latasha wrote: "Yeah those dolls are creepy! My granny had a few but not that many!..."SAME!! I hated sleeping in that spare bedroom too. hahaha
Terry wrote: "Read the first two chapters. Mouse is certainly an interesting character to start here."I like Foxy as a character. If she was my neighbor, I'd be having her over for tea everyday
Just got to the beginning of Chapter 4 and it's a good start. I like the writing and the main character.Yeah, I also want to clean my house too Kasia. hahaha
I like that I'm reading another book with a dog in it! :D
Ha yes getting this Fairy Tale vibes hardcore here, loving that as well.
This book reads so smoothly, I've never read Kingfisher before but also heard amazing things about Nettle & Bone as Ian mentioned.

I got the impression she was mean to begin with, but now that you mention it, that does make sense

Dragons & Jetpacks. It's only nominated so far. I'll read it eventually no matter what.
Got to the beginning of Chapter 10 today. Finally found some time to read. Yay!(view spoiler) 😂🤣
I’m loving the folk horror vibe in this one!
I like Foxy too. What a great character and her un-juleps make me laugh.
Kasia wrote: "I also wonder if [spoilers removed]"Great point!! Especially when she’s on that Appalachian bald. Mouse definitely lost (view spoiler)

I love Roxy!! She’s a fantastic character in this.Got to the beginning of Chapter 14 tonight. This book is crazy and reminds me that I should be careful anytime I’m in the deep Appalachian backwoods. Hahaha
I have to believe that (view spoiler)

I just got to this same spot. I’m 100% with you on your spoiler comment!
Maybe my memory of the 2 books is blurred, but I feel like the protagonist in this & The Hollow Places could be the same. I love both & plan to read a lot more Kingfisher.
