Unfortunately not. Pretty much the entirety of the story takes place at the station, from my memory. Also the setting is more of a dustbowl town than a big city.

Wikipedia's plot summary (with Spoilers) of the short story Willa by Stephen King - Rose's suggestion. Sounds like a great story but not quite a match.

Really similar, but not it unfortunately! Thanks for the suggestion though!
Dustbowl town makes me think of the Coven Tree series, but I don't think any of them took place at a train station. Was the main character male or female? Approximate age?

Hi there! Just wondering, did you ever manage to find the book you were looking for? I’m trying to track down the same story and thought I’d check if you had any luck. Your original post provided so much more detail than I could recall. Thanks!
Google Books preview of Last Stop (also called "Watchers: Last Stop") by Peter Lerangis - Becca's suggestion:

- There are different cover images.

Unfortunately my memory of this book is so hazy, but the detail I mentioned in my original post about the miniature model of the train station is probably the part I remember most clearly, so that would be the identifying fact.
The VanishingsI finally tracked it down after a long search! The Vanishings, by Michael Panckridge
Instantly recognised the cover when I saw it.

White cover with grey writing?
Spoilers incoming:
The protagonist ends up finding an exact model of the train station in a basement area below the station and works out that if they move pieces on the model, those things move in real life.
