should we treat criminals better? Better beds, more expensive food? Getting the weekends to go home and commit a few more murders.

Abby | 443 comments If your in jail you deserve to be treated like a human because your punishment is your lack of freedom you don’t need to get punished more in jail. and US prisons do not treat people like humans. Also prisons should be more focused on putting people back out into society with a chance of being a successful citizen and not getting Reincarcerated( unless they commit a crime like r@pe, child abuse, domestic abuse, etc).

Also in the US prisoners are allowed by law to be slaves which is horrible.

And people shouldn’t be put in prison just for using drugs.

I mean the parkland shooter just got life in prison. So how should we treat him? I dunno, I feel like we treat horrible criminals and terrorists too nicely here in the west.

Abby | 443 comments They deserve food that is edible. Not to be tortured and abused or assaulted. And to not be slaves.

I dunno, that is kinda generous for a guy who slaughtered 20+ children.

1.
I agree that we should be focusing more on helping criminals change, and have a chance of a new life. BUT you do know that some criminals do the crime JUST so they can get in jail.
2. It's not slaves. It's them doing work for what they did. You think we should let someone who stole and destroyed some property to just lounge around, eating edible food and napping all day? Heck no. Don't commit the crime, unless you want to do the time. And that time is, working. Being punished for what you did. I ask you this, would consider community service being a slave?
3. drugs? I think we shouldn't be putting people for USING drugs, but for what they do while ON drugs. People get affected by drugs, like they do with alcohol. Especially if they have a mental illness that can be set off by the drugs. I know someone with a mental illness, and when she took drugs it put her in a violent rage. She started going after her spouse. She did things she'd never do if she weren't on drugs. (Also yes, she knew the drugs would set off the disease, but by then she was already addicted.) Some people will get MORE depressed with drugs, some people become destructive with drugs, etc. So we should focus more on what they're doing while on the drugs, rather than the drugs they take.

I do agree. Abbey, you only noted that we should treat them horribly if they committed r@pe, abuse, etc. But shouldn't we treat them the same if they commit murder?

"“If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses. But no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness. Moreover, you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall be put to death." - Numbers 35:30-31

"Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword." - Matthew 26:52

Abby | 443 comments Ok so
1. People try to get in jail because it is slightly better than living on the street with no food or shelter.
2. In one of your constitutions it literally say that the only people who can be slaves are criminals. And yes they are slaves not all of them but there are tons of private prisons where business use the inmates for labour and the government gets paid not the inmates.
3. Addiction is an illness they should be treated for they illness as if it were any other illness not forced into prison where they can still get drugs pretty easily and will not get any help. People who do things solely because of mental illness should also get help.
