Dan | 1606 comments November's Lovecraft group read is a novella almost everyone has heard of, "The Dunwich Horror." Written in 1928, it was first published in the April 1929 issue of Weird Tales (pp. 481–508). It takes place in Dunwich, a fictional town in Massachusetts, and is considered one of the core stories of the Cthulhu Mythos. This one has it all: Miskatonic University in Arkham, the Necronomicon, witchcraft, albinos, and our friend Yog-Sothoth (mentioned when we discussed The Case of Charles Dexter Ward),

Dan | 1606 comments I'm a little more than halfway through this now and am amazed. One thing I didn't realize about Lovecraft was how much he improved as his writing career progressed. Some of his earlier works had flaws, but he is firing on all cylinders now. The real surprise for me was how the protagonist was dead by halfway through the story. "What's the story going to be about now?" I wondered. I now realize it's about what the protagonist set in motion. Fascinating, well-written stuff!

Rosemarie | 177 comments I hope I have time to reread this, since it is a good one!
