Lets get picking out books.... !!

I live in Virginia and am currently trying to finish homeschooling my youngest, who is in 9th grade, while working full time.
I love to read Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery, Romance, and Thriller; but also like to try other genres from time to time. Can't wait to meet everyone and hopefully find some new books to read along the way.
My shelf: Wheel 7

I'm 37 years old, and I own/run a family pet-related business. I live in Alabama (CST time zone), but I’m not much of a “southern girl”. I have 3 kids and a dog and a husband.
I love most genres, but my favorites are PNR/UF and historical fiction. I’m working hard this year to get outside my “box” and read lots of different things, and so far I’m enjoying the change!
So excited to get to know everyone, reconnect with previous teamies and READ!
Here’s my “ice-breaker” question: I LOVE our Book Team Name, since The Book Thief is one of my favorite books, but I did not like the movie. Have you read it? What did everyone think of both works?
My shelf: Wheelathon

I mostly read MM and literary fiction (way less of that) but am up for anything.
I am disappointed in our name (sorry, Ashley), as I did NOT enjoy The Book Thief and never saw the movie. But I'm so glad to be here!
I'll answer your ice-breaker with one of my own--What's your favorite book about books? Mine is The World According to Garp.
My shelf is: bookwheelmobile

I read 90% MM Romance and 10% mostly non fiction books (but that 10% is sometimes split amongst some other genres.) For my Romance books I like paranormal or mysteries both (and the two combined is usually my favorite). For Non Fiction I'm pretty varied but I've been strangely into disaster and/or survival stories lol.
I have not seen nor read The Book Thief AND I'm not sure I've read a book about books. So don't have much to add lol.
My shelf is Wheel2022

I'm Trio - I live in NYC, Eastern Time Zone :)
I read all kinds of genres, but tend to lean towards stories with LGBTQ+ characters. Though I'm currently reading an MF story now, so what can I say lol.
I had to help my daughter read The Book Thief when she was in Middle School - then we watched the film. It was okay, but I did love The World According to Garp... I read it in high school, then saw the movie when it came out way back in the early '80s! (I'm 56.)
I'm going to try and think of a good ice breaker question :).
My Shelf

I haven't read The Book Thief or seen the movie so I don't have an opinion there.
My favorite book about books is Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore.

My favorite book about books... This is a great question and hard to answer! Considering The Book Thief counts, it probably should be that one, but that seems like a cop-out. I have read a few others that stand out, so maybe Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore or The Midnight Library.
I have not read The World According to Garp, but it looks great!

I'm Rosina I near Calgary Alberta. MST. I am a Finance Manager for a Non Profit. I am married with 3 steps kids and 8 grandkids and 2 cats. Hubby retired this year and I had a change in jobs so I could be home more with him and also be able to work from home. Cant wait for the day I get to retire.
I read all kinds of genre. Thriller, Suspense, Mystery is my favorite.
I havent read or seen the movie The Book Thief - although I have a copy of the book. I have played Wheel many times. I like all kinds of team challenges.
A book about books - my first read for the challenge

I think when I signed up I put the wrong number as it says 1 book for the whole challenge on the spreadsheet. It should have been 1 book a week.

My favorite book about books... This is a great question and ..."
Like Trio (I'm 54), I read it in high school and then saw and loved the movie--Glenn Close, Robin Williams, John Lithgow, so good! I'm checking out Mr. Penumbra.

I lived in Bankview, just one block off the Red Mile 2003-2008. Our daughter was born there, but I'm back in the US (Illinois) now.

I live in a suburb of Philadelphia with my husband and his cat. My daugher got engaged two months ago so we are planning a wedding for December 2023.🥰 During the day I'm a part-time CPA (tax accountant) at a national accounting firm.
I'll read almost anything if I have to for the team, but my favorites are Historical Fiction, Fiction, Mystery and Thriller. I'm not a fan of SciFi but I do like Fantasy.
I really liked The Book Thief but did not like the movie.
Here is my shelf https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Fun part of the city to live, close to lots of attractions and restaurants. Husband's sister and family live in a burb outside of Chicago. I ve moved around some. Lived in the US - Minneapolis, London England, Vancouver BC.

Ooh, which one! My person is from Evanston, and we're in Urbana (about 2 hours south of Chicago) where we teach at the University of Illinois.
We LOVED Calgary, and being Canadian, but job stuff happened. The neighborhood was fantastic, and we could walk everywhere, and had friends there and in Mission as well. We still miss it.

Small world :) My husband and I went to SIUC. We also currently live in Carterville, about 10 minutes from Carbondale.

If you're okay with super dark thrillers Tara, I'm currently reading Chosen and I've barely been able to put it down! So good.

I was so excited to see I was on this team because The Book Thief is one of my all time favorite books ❤️!!!
I do have a question. Are we making a whole separate shelf or a tag for this challenge? I've never had to make a separate shelf before so how does it work when you mark a book "read"?

Next time you update any book on GR, you'll have a drop down menu under the book that will say "read" or "currently reading" etc. When you click on that all of your shelves will come up, so you can click next to whatever shelves you've set up for yourself.
Hopefully someone else will write it better lol.

And we're looking for blue covers, does that have to be the edition we read, or any edition?
Last question for now - do you want our books to be put on our special Wheels shelf only after we've completed them?

We have just over 24 hours until the start of the challenge. Here is a list of start times in various time zones:

Has anyone chosen their first book(s) yet? I think I'll start with

We can get 5 extra points for books with blue cover (maximum of 5 bonuses) and 5 extra points for books tagged space opera.

Trio did a good job of explaining. I would add, make sure your shelf is not "exclusive". When you are editing your shelves, there will be 5 columns after your shelf name that can be bulleted or checked: feature, sortable, sticky, exclusive, recs
Feature will be shown on your profile. This is usually like a favorites shelf, if you have one.
Sortable mean you can name a custom order of your books (this isn't necessary for this challenge)
Sticky shelves are shown first
Exclusive shelves mean you can't have the same book on 2 exclusive shelves. Think of your 3 default shelves: Read, Currently Reading, To Read.
Recs just give recommendations based on the shelf

Yes, this is helpful when we captains are checking your books to make sure everything is allowed when we add books to the main spreadsheet.
Trio wrote: "does that have to be the edition we read, or any edition?"
I will let Deanna confirm, but I know in the past it has to be the edition you read.

Ne..."
I'll just add that if you check our dedicated shelves (most of them at least, mine for sure) you'll see all our shelves. The list alphabetically, with Read, Currently Reading, and To Read at the top always. Books can go on multiple shelves, and when you read a book from a shelf, it automatically also populates to your Read shelf.
Like Trio, I am also curious what you're studying. Unlike Trio, when I was in grad school, I read fiction pretty regularly, to keep myself sane and take a brain break. I've got a PhD in theatre (feminist performance historian is my self-description).

Winter's Orbit for Space Opera
and then I plan to read books 2 in both series. We'll see how it goes!
When is a good time to post the letter we use? I'm guessing if we have a hard letter (like U or K) or a multiple letter (like N or E), we should use them first. But is it better to wait to claim, or grab right away?
Dying to start this challenge!

So just to confirm - we're supposed to use the default edition for page count, but to get credit for blue cover we need to post the edition we read?

We can ..."
So reading this does that mean after 5 blue books are taken they don't count towards the extra? and it looks like people have 5 books planned already that count?
I was gonna reread the Lunar Chronicles series since all the books are tagged space opera, will just have to check enough tags (its 10x right)?

You're probably right, Amanda, but I read that as only 5 bonuses per person, not team (kind of like Bachelor). Can someone who knows chime in? Thanks.

this will be my first read. Blue cover and works for Letter E. This is a BOM in another group I am in. Looking forward to reading this story.

Each week teams can gain 5 bonus points if a book used in the spell out is:
- at least 50% the colour cover associated with the team's word - to a maximum of 25 points
- that has at least 10 shelvings that matches the week's shelf. The same shelf will be used for all teams. There is no maximum points for the shelving.
So we only need five blue books but can use unlimited space opera tagged (10+) books

The color cover and the page count are both for the edition that you actually read. If you listen to an audiobook, then the default page count is used. Hopefully that makes sense.

Are we filling out the team sheet with what we're going to read or do you enter that (sorry this is my first wheels challenge)

Thank you!

Are we filling out the team sheet with what we're going to read or do you enter that (sorry this is my first wheels challenge)"
Jessica, you can enter your books on the team planning spreadsheet in message 4 and the captains will decide how best to use it.
