Jaws - Peter Benchley

The classic story of the shark that terrorizes the beach town of Amity does not need me to summarize the plot. I will note that the book has a lot more information about the backstories of the town and the people that live there. The way the town reacted to the danger of the shark attacks reminded me of how the country reacted to the danger of the pandemic. It was the economy vs. the risk of more deaths. The final third was the suspenseful shark hunt where our trio ties to kill the beast. The part that brought my rating down a star was the story of the Chief's wife. I did not have a problem with the idea of the affair, but it was turned off a bit by the way Benchley described it (I could do without the "every woman fantasizes about being raped" line). I was also put off by some of the racist mentions in the book. So overall it gets 3 stars.

I think I will skip this and just stick with the movie.
I have always wanted to read this though.
A lot of men really did a shitty job of writing women back in the day.
