Irphen | 378 comments Hi there! This will be my 4th attempt to complet the Bingo board, I wonder if I will ever manage! But of course it is always fun to see the categories and try to make reading plans, even if I rarely stick to my plans! XD I know coming year will just be the same story :-p As I didn't read quite some books from my 2022 board some that still fit a category will go on to this year and for the others I will start thinking and planning! :-) But of course this will probably end up the same as always, me just reading and rtying to fit some categories and complet ( part ) of the board along the way^^

Terris | 4414 comments I love your list, Irphen! You have a lot of good ones on there!!
I need to read something by Angela Carter sometime. Hope "Book of Fairy Tales" is good.
I especially enjoyed "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (so funny!), and I was impressed with "Maurice." I was expecting something different, and I was pleasantly surprised!

Hope you enjoy your Bingo Challenge in 2023!

I really loved some of the stories from her The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories when I was in my 20s, but re-reading it recently, I was struck by how brutal several of the stories were. Still, I think her baroque language is a wonderful fit for fairy tales, and the best few in the collection still transported me. Hope you enjoy it Terris and Irphen! But don't go in expecting too much lightheatedness or redemption!! :)

Several others you've chosen are favorites - great and varied picks! The mix of literature and sci-fi/fantasy is just up my alley!

I'll cross fingers that you get a completed bingo this year, Irphen, but remember the point is to love the reading you do, so "trying to fit them in slots" is a great strategy.

I had that one on my Bingo board of 2022 but as I don't had a copy yet ( it was the participant pick! ) I ended up not readying it! So this will be my first Angela Carter read :-)

Thanks! And nice to know you are into sf and fantasy as well! ;-)

Nike | 473 comments It will be the fourth attempt for me as well, but I might actually complete one single column this year. Maybe ...

Good luck and I'm looking forward to our buddy read 🙂

Cynda | 5291 comments Just as I expected, you have selected some books I also like. . . . .If you want company, let me know when you want to read the Angela Carter book. I have read two others if hers, and now I am in literary love.

Enjoy your new reading year!

Which Carter books did you read Cynda? Just curious.

message 18: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5291 comments Greg and Irphen, I have read The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories and Wise Children. Bloody Chamber is good, and Wise Children is a masterpeice.

message 19: by Veronique (new)

Veronique | 1148 comments I found the Bloody Chamber awe-inspiring. There is such rawness weaved in the lyricism and beautiful imagery, while Carter’s style challenges you at every corner. Worth the investment.

To Kill a Mockingbird and Jane Eyre are wonderful (in totally different ways) and I hope you enjoy them. I’ve been meaning to read Maurice for a while now, and re-read Dune. Might add them to my board.

Good luck with your bingo. I keep trying every year ;O)

Haha, there sure is a reason for us to be goodreads friends ;-) And I will let you know when I get to the Angela Carter indeed, haven't read anything from her before but it seems very promising and doing a buddy read on it sounds great! :-)

With all this talking about Angela Carter I will be tempted to start of the year with her! ;-)

Also Maurice is on my board for the second or even thrid time this year! I really hope to come to it this time and if ever you want to boost yourself in reading it as well this year we could think about a buddy read!^^

Thanks and good luck to you as well! :-)

message 23: by Irphen (new)

Irphen | 378 comments Never going to finish this bingo challenge haha! It seems like each year I manage to read even less. I'm doing it backward! XD Instaed of building up the number of books I read for my bingo board I lower them eauch year ;-p

message 24: by Wobbley (new)

Wobbley | 2709 comments The main thing is to read things you enjoy. If they don't fit into your Bingo board, no worries!

message 25: by Nike (new)

Nike | 473 comments You've got so many books on this list that I've got in my book shelves at home! But we have realised that before, haven't we? That our taste in literature is very similar.

Did you read the first of Castaneda's books? I still have this series unread. And I've got the book by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, also still unread.

I've read a few of the others on your list and the ones I really love are: "The unbearable lightness of being" - one of the best books I've ever read (✿ ♡‿♡),
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (I've read the first four and since then a fifth part has come and I still can't decide whether to reread the first four or try and jump straight into the fifth) and "To kill a mockingbird" which I read this year.
