in case anyone is struggling with:9. Read a book where a word in the title contains kiss - may be imbedded.
I can recommend Kissing the Witch: Old Tales in New Skins. It's a fairytale collection with familier stories ith much more satisfying endings than the originals. It's a quick read.
Task 3 query: Read a book whose cover is 75% dark red.Would either of these count as dark red enough?
or
You can find the tineye color extractor here: http://labs.tineye.com/color/ Be sure to uncheck the box that says to exclude background colors.A quick check for those two books found that the first book (zoo) is 63.9% red and the second is 60.4% red.
Hi Janice, how precise does the 75% need to be? The best option I've got is
which despite looking very red only comes out at 73.1% red according to tineye. Is that close enough to be acceptable?
Sometimes tineye can be so weird. If I look at that cover I would have guessed more like 98% red! Sheesh.
And that's perfectly okay to add the colours together. Otherwise, we'd really be hooped on a lot of books.
I see that too, Katrisa. I'm guessing that Sam forgot to uncheck the "exclude background colors" boxes. With that checked it would come out a lot lower. That makes much more sense.
Thanks all. I did add all the reds together to get the 73% but didn't spot the exclude background colours box. Wonder if that ends up merging the pinks in with the reds too?
If you look at the picture next to the breakdown it will show you what it is including. It doesn't merge them, just doesn't include the background as if it's not there at all. I don't know why that's the default.
Janice, is this considered dark red?
I was going to use the book for my cursive prompt, but the only copies I could get don't have the right font. I currently have
, but I think it's a little shy on the red because of the white strips. I can get the audio
, but tineye calls the outside part brown. I'm going to try to find the first copy, but didn't want to put too much effort in if it's not dark enough.
Task: Read a book whose cover is 75% dark redIs the red shade of
acceptable for this task? As per TinEye, it is 75.3% (62.5+9.3+3.5) red and it fits the '75%' part of the task.
Thanks.
Would this work for the dark red?
TinEye splits it into brown (78,1 %) and red (15,9 %), but the layered impression is dark red.
ETA: Never mind, I have another edition that definitely isn't red...
I ran into that same issue with my book above. Tineye called the version I have brown. Fortunately, Janice is allowing books that are very red so they don't need to be that dark, just not light I think.
Just wanted to recommend We Are the Brennans to anyone looking for a book that features a bar. Her family owns a pub and there is a lot of focus on the business as well as scenes in the bar.
I started on the audio book of Magpie Murders; the cover is considered by TinEye to be 90.9 % red - not dark red but very red, so it should work:
I have that one on my list of options too, Kabrada. It is my lightest one, along with You Slay Me, but I thought it would be red enough. Thanks for confirming, Janice.
I came here to ask if
would work. It's 84% red on Tiny Eye, but all the different shades are just called red. Now I may use
since I just recent bought a copy.
If you own Dark Lover, it is a darker red and fits the criteria better. Having said that, I have approved Magpie Murders, so it's really up to you.
Thanks Janice! I don't own Dark Lover, but my library has it in audio book which is my preferred anyway! Same cover is shown for the audio edition.
I kind of struggle with the exact definition of an unreliable narrator, but I think I'm listening to one right now. The story is from the MCs perspective and he keeps commenting about why would someone say that, it's not true. He's remembering things from the night his mom went missing and I'm pretty sure his memories are wrong. Turns out he has memory issues from a head injury in a car accident. Does this make him an unreliable narrator?

Would you consider this dark red? Tineye says exactly 90% red but I'm not sure if it's dark enough:
Edit: Should've read the comments in which you already mentioned it Janice, my bad!
For task 7, read a book with a british author, does the author have to have been born in Britain or live there now. The author of the book I just read, Liz Fenwick, was born in Massachusettes but has lived in Cornwall for years and considers it home.

Fiona,
Did you read this? I just finished it and was disappointed. I ended up listening at 1.5 speed to get it over sooner.
