Anita (anitafajitapitareada) | 1513 comments This is the thread for our February nominations. I enjoyed the ease of having both in one thread for January, so let us try again in February. Remember, you can nominate one book for each category. Please indicate which category each nomination is for, i.e. Fiction or RAtW. Nominations will remain open for one week.

For February, we are looking to read a fiction book set in Africa and/or by an African author. This does not need to feature a specific country as our Read Around the World selections do.

We are also looking to read a Read Around the World selection featuring Ukraine. The book must be set in Ukraine for 50% or more, bonus if it is by a Ukranian author. This book can be fiction or non-fiction.

Criteria:
1. Book must be by a female author (transwomen and women using male pseudonyms are women).
2. No books that have already been group reads within the past 3 years/36 months (check the group's bookshelf).
3. Do not nominate a book you have written or for which you are the publicist or lead marketer.
4. Consider availability. If a book is available in the US and UK (at minimum), and in paperback and ebook formats, more members can participate than if not.

To Nominate:
1. Give both the title of the book and the author's name when nominating to avoid confusion. Please use the 'add book/author' button when nominating.
2. Indicate whether you are willing or not to lead discussion if your nomination is chosen.
3. Maximum - one nomination per member, per category.

Nominations

Fiction, Africa:
-Jollof Rice and Other Revolutions: A Novel in Interlocking Stories by Omolola Ijeoma Ogunyemi, Carol
-Sankofa by Chibundu Onuzo, Lindsey
-How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue, Susan
-His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie, Kate

RATW, Ukraine:
-A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka, Carol
-The Nesting Dolls by Alina Adams, Lindsey
-The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by Erin Litteken, Gail
-Borderland: A Journey Through the History of Ukraine by Anna Reid, Kate

Carol (carolfromnc) | 4105 comments For Africa, I nominate Jollof Rice and Other Revolutions: A Novel in Interlocking Stories by Nigerian author, Omolola Ijeoma Ogunyemi. It is available in a number of formats, but not inexpensive. (It's at my library.) I am unsure of availability in the UK and elsewhere. I can lead.

GailW (abbygg) | 298 comments For Ukraine, I recommend The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by Erin Litteken. The author is the granddaughter of Ukrainian refugees after WW2. What a great pair of choices. The most difficult decision is which to read first, and which second.
