Karen | 18 comments I haven't done this challenge for a few years, as I've been working on other challenges. However, those ones have started to feel too restrictive, so I'm back! Looking forward to clearing some titles off my TBR...

2. The God of Small Things
3. I Am Pilgrim (07/29)

6. Small Island
7. Elevator Pitch (09/15)
8. Final Girls (11/15)
9. Cold Mountain (02/13)
10. We Have Always Lived in the Castle (09/23)
11. Elizabeth Is Missing (08/05)
12. NOS4A2

Alternates:

Karen | 18 comments Thanks everyone for the welcome back. Still finalizing my list, but will have it in the next couple of day. Stay tuned!

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Read Billy Summers last year and I really enjoyed it, can't really go wrong with Stephen King. I have many of the others on my TBR list. Wish you the best of luck with your challenge.

I've only read your Shirley Jackson selection. She is a unique author. I have enjoyed two other of Barclay's books. I hope you enjoy all of your selections.

Andrea (andreabewley) | 19 comments Some great reads on your list! Happy reading in 2023!!

Karen | 18 comments Finished Left Neglected, for my first book of the year. Not bad, but I just couldn't connect with any of the characters, especially the protagonist, Sarah. This took away from my enjoyment of the book, but learning about her cognitive challenges was still interesting.

Karen | 18 comments I've gotten a bit off-track with this challenge, but I just finished my third book, Beautiful Ruins. I mostly enjoyed it, but found there were a few too many storylines to keep track of. Even though it all comes together in the end, there were characters here I was much more interested in than others. Oh well, on to the next.

Karen | 18 comments Finally, finally, got through I Am Pilgrim. What a long book! It was a pretty good read, although it might not have needed to be so long, and there was one big plot development that hinged on a rather huge coincidence. Still, a decent read.

It’s our local book club read for next month - has been on my TBR shelf for some time but the length had put me off until now so pleased that you said it’s a pretty good read

Karen | 18 comments I tried reading The God of Small Things, but realized I just wasn't feeling it. I switched to Three Junes, which was one of my alternates. It was okay, but not something I'll remember for a long time or anything. I'm hoping that the last few books on this list are good, as I've read a lot of books this year that were just okay.

Sorry that the books haven't been great for you.

Bel Canto is either loved or hated; but I loved it.

NOS4A2 was excellent if you love Stephen King. I know this is Joe Hill; but NOS4A2 was signature SK. LOL

I do love Stephen King, and I have read some of Joe Hill's work, so I hope NOS4A2 is good. I hope I can read the rest of the books on my main list, and not have to use any more alternates.

Karen | 18 comments Only two books remain for me to finish this challenge. I'm hopeful I can get them both done before the end of the year, even though one of them is super long!

Good luck, Karen. I hope you can finish them and you enjoy both of them very much. I only have one left on mine, but I started it over a month ago and can't seem to get anywhere with it. Why do I always want to read something else once I've got books on this list?

NOS4A2 is pretty fast-paced. Bel Canto kinda meanders, but its just a dreamy book. Its short; so, it should go by quickly.

Not sure about the others, but everyone seems to love Extremely loud and incredibly close.

I ended up moving to Then She Was Gone, because I wasn't really in the mood for Small Island; it seems like an easy read so far. Glad to hear that NOS4A2 moves quickly, since I left it until the very last, lol.

11 Done, Karen. Did you finish another?? Either way, you did great!! 🤗

message 21: by Karen (new)

Karen | 18 comments It looks as though I will NOT finish this challenge, as I foolishly left the longest book to the end. With the holidays and everything, I didn't get as much time to read it as I had hoped. Oh well. I missed my yearly goal as well, but I still had a fun year of reading, and that's what really counts.

That IS what really counts!! I barely read this month myself. Too busy eating and visiting.
