Hi everyone! Welcome. I'm Laura. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I read a variety of genres but especially like romantic suspense. When I'm not reading I like hiking, kayaking, diamond painting, scrapbooking, walking my dog and caring for my plants ( I have a lot of plants-syngoniums are probably my favorite!) I'm hosting a plant swap in January 😁I've seen variations of monopoly challenges in different groups but I think Ashley has put a lot of thought and effort into this challenge. Spreadsheets look great! I'm super excited to play with you all.
Hi, everyone! I'm Karen. I live in Chicago, Illinois. I'm retired with 3 grown sons and 2 DILs. I love most types of Romance except Sci Fi and Horror. Besides reading, we recently got a puppy who keeps us very busy...

Hi everyone, I'm Melanie from New Jersey where I live with my husband and 2 cats. I primarily read romance and mystery/thrillers with the occasional urban fantasy or sci-fi.I haven't done a Monopoly challenge before so I'm looking forward to this one.
This will be my first time playing a Monopoly challenge. I love the board game. I’m excited to play! 😀
Hi Everyone! My name is Samantha. I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have a 9 year old German Shepherd named Boe. He still acts just like when he was a puppy. I read Romance books, that is my main genre. I have not played bookopoly I am excited to try it.
Helloo,I'm Megan, I'm from the UK. I have two dogs Flossie and Odin. I read mainly romances but do enjoy mystery and fantasy/paranormal as well.
I enjoy playing games on my computer, walking the dogs, doing aerobics and of course reading :-)
Hi teamies, checking in. Great to see you, Karen, and happy to meet everyone else :-) I also read mostly all kinds of romance, and maybe a mystery once in a while. Looking forward to this challenge, the SS look great!
I’ve played individual Monopoly on another group which was a lot of fun. Really looking forward to this one!
I have a question. I know we bank books the first week until we have made it around the board once. After that, can we use those banked books to fulfill a task? If one of our banked books fits the task? Or do we need to read another book to complete the task? Just trying to figure things out!
Sorry, extremely busy day! Long shift at work and yesterday was my 45th birthday. The kids and bf threw me a little party!! 🎉🎉Happy to see everyone checked in! Hi & welcome 🤗
Geri, I read all the information posted and my understanding is we can bank all our books we read. We can use those books to fulfill a task(if they fit) Teams can only deposit 10 books when passing go - these books may not be used again
Does that make sense?
My thinking for strategy... First roll is going to take us 12 spaces or less. Two dice- less likely to roll 4 or less ( though possible) Mediterranean & Baltic would be lower on list to read for immediately. If our speedy readers could read a book that fits a task(s) for the Oriental group and St. Charles group that would be helpful. I'm a slower reader so it seems more beneficial/strategic for me to read a book in the park place tasks or North Carolina set of tasks so when we get to that side of the board we might have a banked book to pull from. Does that make sense? Any other thoughts, ideas?
Happy Bday Laura 🎉!Do we focus on the property boxes? Or should some of us start finding books for that entire first bottom row? (Community Chest, Baltic, Income Tax, Reading, Oriental, Chance, Vermont, Connecticut, Jail)
Hopefully we'll get the hang of it as we go, still kinda lost-ish...
Happy Birthday, Laura! Glad it was a fun day!I’m a little lost. But I’m sure it will make sense once we start playing. Trying to fulfill a task in advance makes good strategy. Instead of just hoping a book we bank work for a task.
I have a book that will work for Oriental Avenue. So I’ll plan to read it during our first week.
Happy Birthday, Laura. So nice that they threw you a party.I'm a bit lost too. I'm not a fast reader so thought I would read for something further along on the board also.

Thanks Kari!
We can start reading ( finish date counts) I'm going to start a book that works for one of the boardwalk task as I don't think I'll be quick enough to read a book that satisfies a task for a dice roll 2-12.
I know Geri is a fast reader if RL isn't crazy for her. Is anyone else a fast reader? If you read a book that doesn't fit for task that's okay as those are the books that will get deposited
Here's my revised thinking for strategy: Our turn we roll the dice, probability of dice roll we land on a property. ( Possible to land on something besides property) We buy the property if unowned and the fastest reader reads for the corresponding task. The rest of us read what we want whether it's for task or not. Once we pass go, Megan or I will bank 10 books for our "salary" that keeps accumulating each turn around go!
We will be second in turn
Hi everyone, I placed my current book I am reading on the spreadsheet in both the banked book tab and the gameboard tab so that maybe a visual will help for those that are a little unclear. My book works for several tasks ( how cool is that? I just picked one of my library books to read) Depending on what our roll is it will either go in the banked books to deposit once we pass go or it will be used for task.
Melanie- I just realized we are on the same team in the Challenge Corner group for the series challenge on team Cute Mutants.
Ok I've read through everything so I think I get how this works. But if anything, I can always ask after we start.
Laura wrote: "Melanie- I just realized we are on the same team in the Challenge Corner group for the series challenge on team Cute Mutants."Hah, yes we are! It's always nice to see the same people pop up in different groups.
Good morning! I added a book to our Game Board books and I also added it to the Banked books, is this correct? Or are Banked books only for when a book doesn't fit any task? Someone please double check my work 😊
Melanie wrote: "Laura wrote: "Melanie- I just realized we are on the same team in the Challenge Corner group for the series challenge on team Cute Mutants."Hah, yes we are! It's always nice to see the same peopl..."
Yes, it is!
Kari wrote: "Good morning! I added a book to our Game Board books and I also added it to the Banked books, is this correct? Or are Banked books only for when a book doesn't fit any task? Someone please double ..."
I put mine on both because I don't know where it's going to go yet. My book fits several tasks. If your book fits one task then sure leave it on both tabs. Yes, Banked books will be for those books that don't fit a task. Megan and I will definitely be moving books around.
For example, if we only have 9 books to deposit and someone reads a 500 page+ I'll likely add that to our salary and deposit it. Our salary is what is going to allow us to buy houses and hotels.
Laura wrote: "I put mine on both because I don't know where it's going to go yet. My book fits several tasks. If your book fits one task then..."Ok sounds good, thanks Laura!
Laura - I added 2 books to banked books. They both can fit a task for Oriental Avenue or St. Charles place. But I’ll let you or Megan decide whether to use them for a task or to deposit it. Like you said bigger books should be deposited and we aren’t sure where we will land after we roll. So use wherever it fits best. I’ll have them finished in a few days.
the books added to the spreadsheet look good! Is there anyone who doesn't have access or isn't comfortable using a spreadsheet?
Geri wrote: "Laura - I added 2 books to banked books. They both can fit a task for Oriental Avenue or St. Charles place. I suspect as we start and keep playing we will have a book for each property, utility, railroad and loads of banked books.
Both Boardwalk and Park Place teams have rolled! Once team Wheelbarrow finishes their turn we can roll! Please post in this thread when you finish your books. Please post all books you read as they will count. Happy reading and have fun!
Geri wrote: "Happy New Year Team! 🥂Exciting! The game begins!
Laura - I finished Still Life today."
Awesome! Can you make a completion post? It will help Megan and I, plus be accountable to the other teams.
I looked at Q & A. I don’t think this was answered. For page count, is there a specific edition to use?
Rolled a two: Community ChestYou've had twins - read a book with a child under 5 in it
Here's our first task to complete: read a book with a child under 5 in it.
Anyone have a book to fit?

Yes. In Mistle Text: 'Twas the Text Before Christmas ... Holly's niece Faith is 4-5 years old. She's an important character. I remember her being closer to 5 but the blurb says she's 4.
