Donna Lundy | 88 comments I have been working on searching for missing covers for this author W.C. Tuttle. While working, I found 2 other authors with same or similar names. How can I know if these are the same person or a different person with the same name. According to amazon.com, it appears that the author Wilbur Coleman Tuttle is the same person. See https://www.amazon.com/Psychology-Cop...

I also found an author by the name of W. C. Tuttle with a space between the initials. I know we use spaces to differentiate when there are authors with the same name. But, if these are the same person, is there an easy way to merge the 2 records? The one with the space has 9 titles under his name. The one without a space has 52. I am working on searching if there are any overlapping titles under both names.

Thanks for your help!

Donna Lundy | 88 comments My searching found that there are 2 titles that are listed under both names W.C. & W. C.: Adventure - Shepherds For Science & Shepherds For Science AND Spawn of the desert & Spawn of the Desert: A Western Adventure. Then I also found still another author listed with this title: C. Tuttle. That last one seems to be a completely different person, so maybe that book having that author's name is a mistake? Spawn of the Desert: A Western Adventure because it appears to be the same book as the author W.C. Tuttle has in his list.

Thanks again!

Miriam | 1831 comments I did go ahead and merge the two W.C. Tuttle profiles.

GR uses the spaces in the background (and between the first and last names, not between the initials) to separate the profiles. They shouldn't be visible on the public page (only the edit page).

For the Wilbur Coleman Tuttle, since the books were published under that name, there are three options (assuming they are the same person and on the surface I'm leaning that way).

1. Do nothing (assuming the books weren't republished under both names).

2. Add W.C. Tuttle as a secondary author to the Wilbur Coleman Tuttle books. This is my preferred option

3. merge the W.C. Tuttle profile into the Wilbur Coleman Tuttle profile (since Wilbur Coleman Tuttle includes W.C. Tuttle, it's allowed). I don't like this option since W.C. Tuttle appears to be the more common name

You can check sources like Library of Congress and see if the book records list both names (WorldCat also works).
