J Escue | 2 comments i would appreciate some advice. i seek to learn the names of 2 or 3 thriller authors with books that sold well from the last 2 years where the hero is an average person or a person out of his element just doing their job and thrown into a major event they have to solve and fight their way out of. preferably a conspiracy thriller .

the early versions of jack ryan from tom clancy would be a great comp for me but that is over 20 yrs old. same w langdon of da vinci code but alas to old. i seek suggestion of a book that was successful, and written in last two years,

the hero can't be a cop, or secret agent or other person who is doing their job. has to be a accidental hero.

respectfully,

David Freas (quillracer) | 2975 comments I have five of Coben's stand-alone books on my 'Books Read' list, all of them written between 2001 and 2012, and none of them feel dated the way a book written in the 40s or 50s would.

All of them had me on the edge of my seat (not an easy thing to do) with one twist after another. I can't imagine he's lost that ability in his newer books.
