about a year ago, i read this book. it's about a girl living on a homestead with her extended family. she never met her dad and her mom abandoned her when she was a baby. it's a post-apocalyptic world, i'm pretty sure, but not a zombie apocalypse. her family is aggressively, obsessively religious, conservative, sexist, and racist, believing that the state humanity is in happened because of ungodliness. eventually, they bring an adult man to sleep with the main character because they believe that it is her duty to have a child as young as possible to ensure a healthy birth. she runs away to go find her mother using a brochure, i think, that her mother left. she eventually locates her mother and realizes that she left because she fell in love with a black man and had a child, and her family threw her out because they hated the idea of a mixed child. main character gets to know her new half-sister. main character also meets a girl, i think named jesse, who plays the guitar around the fire at mealtimes. the two fall in love
