I am running a book club. The topic this month is books that have been turned into movies. Does anybody have suggestions?

Half a Yellow Sun was made into a good movie, about Nigeria in the 60s.

Silver Lining Play Book

The Book Of Negroes. Captivating and deeply moving. A story of early slavery, all done in a female slave's voice, by Lawrence Hill. Loved it!

i like kite runner and wild, the pianist and oh plus full metal jacket, the adaptations are pretty kick ass and awesome

Olive Kitteridge - tv series, Murder on the Orient express - released a new version a few months back, Big little lies - also a TV series.
Everything is Illuminated - movie, The Handmaid's Tale - really good tv series. I guess I've given you more tv series, I think I tend to watch more of those than go to movies.

(I know I'm a few years too late but) If you need something which is similar to this one, then I'd recommend Into the Wild (original book by Jon Krakauer).

My two favorites are, "The Hunt For Red October" and "The Martian"

Suggestions: Gone With the Wind; The Martian; Unbroken; Wild; Rebecca. Some are old, some are new. All are loaded with good book club discussion topics.

I liked the The Giver by Lois Lowry, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

The Perks of Being A Wallflower is a nice book that's been adapted into a wonderful movie by the same name.

The Martian, Gone Girl, The Fault in Our Stars, Room, Labor Day... Ready Player One (soon to be a movie by Steven Spielberg).

Little women , The kite runner...Loved the book and movie adaption as well!

FiveThirtyEight has an interesting geek's approach to the question: Plot the movies' metacritic score against each book's goodreads rating, and find the outliers.

I just read The Martian and then saw the movie which is out in theaters right now, starring Matt Damon. Loved the book and the movie!

My book club reads books that have been turned into movies. Here are some of our favorites. Still Alice, Black Mass, Child 44, Wild, Pride and Prejudice.

I have a bookshelf titled "books-on-film" which is for books that have been made into movies. Clearly I don't have everything that's ever been put on film there, but I do have 37 titles. Feel free to take a peek at it. :)

Water for Elephants. Loved the book. Loved the movie!

Recently, Gone Girl and The Fault in Our Stars. Also the Hunger Games and Divergent series. Harry Potter. Anna Karenina about a dozen times. Grapes of Wrath. Gone with the Wind. I could go on...

Practical magic by Alice Hoffman. Movie starred Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

2 Steinbeck adaptations: The original "Grapes of Wrath" starring Henry Fonda and the Gary Sinise-directed "Of Mice and Men" from around 1991.

Reese Witherspoon produced and starred in this rare book about a woman who has the guts to hike 1,100 miles along the PCT, ill-prepared, ill-equipped except for his wits and her sense of desperation after the loss of her beloved mother to cancer at age 45. Both the film and the book were transformative; I adore gutsy gals and nature; it was perfect for me. Not for the faint of heart.
