There's also this very short book by Erich Maria Remarque called "The night in Lisbon (Die Nacht von Lissabon)".

I have no clue what's it about, but he also wrote "all quiet on the western front", which is a banger.

With that being said, I'm open to more suggestions.

Seems like some of you already have the book "Death with interruptions" by Jose Saramago on your wishlist...so everyone agrees to start with that one?
