I have already pre-ordered
which is coming out on March 10th. I'd love to read it along with this group! If not that one (which is really a mash-up of several genres) I still haven't read Ready Player One and was planning on reading that one next month, too.
I right with you Kaitlin - I've only dabbled in Sci-Fi a bit.I'm interested in reading the Martian by Andy Weir.
I'm frankly a bit burnt on fantasy after reading so much of it the last two months! April will be a welcome change. I'd like to nominate:1. A Fire Upon the Deep
by
Vernor Vinge
&2. Foundation
by
Isaac Asimov
!
Hmm...If people haven't read a lot of scifi I think 'Dune' would be a nice place for the group to start.
I also have 'Leviathan Wakes' sitting here on my tbr pile and have heard it described as Game of Thrones meets space opera so that could be kind of fun.

I second The Martian by Andy Weir!

or
I picked up

today (my first proper SF book buys) so I am super excited about them (thanks for suggesting them guys) and I'll read them at some point for sure.
Keep the suggestions coming and keep seconding your faves so that they go through to the poll :)
Thank you all!! :D

I can't wait for my copy to arrive in the mail this Tuesday. Also, I want to start the Expanse series soon, too, since the TV show will be coming out....later this year, I think?
Hi, I second "The Mechanical" and "The Martian" and I'd like to suggest
"Lock in" by John Scalzi and
"The Demi Monde" by Rod Rees
:)

Maybe next month, this month is Sci-fi only though please :)

I second The Martian been meaning to read it for a while. I'd like to suggest The Lost Fleet: Dauntless by Jack Campbell.
The only sci-fi I've read are the Star Wars books and Enders Game. Will love to try The Martian or The Mechanical.
I have already read The Martian by Andy Weir and I would thoroughly recommend it, as it is a fantastic book.
I listened to The Martian through Audible last month and it was fantastic! I would highly recommend listening to it because the narrator WAS Mark Watney! One of the best narrators I have listened to. At times - actually many times- the science was over my head, and you might need to rewind and listen to some parts over again- but I was able to follow along well enough to know generally what was going on in the story.
I'll second Wind Up girl since its usually not mention at all when introducing fantasy readers to science fiction.
I'm planning to close up the nominations around the 15th so I can start the poll for a week and give you guys a chance to go and get the book before April starts to if there's any last minute suggestions or seconds you want to do go for it :)
Loads of cool books! I'll be putting the top 6 into the poll for people to vote on!

Probably one unless there's a tie or something like that.
There's only 2 this month as I was already planning to read them whether anyone else was or not and as there was interest In thought I'd host both.

I have thought the Martian sounds interesting but I definitely vote for dune, locked in and Hyperion. I am also going to put out starship troopers by Robert A. heinlein
I am going to nominate Erikson's newest book and his 1st SF novel, Witful Child. Maybe next month could be double the Erikson fun?
Excellent we had some wonderful suggestions for April but I'm now closing the suggestions thread so please don't post any more seconds or suggestions as I've already totalled everything up.

As always it must be the first in a series or a standalone so anyone can join in but I'm super intrigued about what you'll come up with as I personally have barely read any sci-fi!
I look forward to seeing your suggestions, feel free to nominate a few and second those you're interested in and I'll create a poll of the most popular later into the month to give the final decision!
Thank you all for sticking with the group and being active members :-)
Happy Reading!
