I'd like to nominate Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. The connection can be found in this definition of a habitat from National Geographic: "A habitat is a place where an organism makes its home."
I'd like to nominate The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi.Justification: The book visits the habitats of Kaiju monsters and follows the scientists who upkeep them.
I nominate Kurt Vonnegut's Galápagos
about a group of people shipwrecked on a fictional island set in the Galapagos Islands after a world financial meltdown. The title is a tribute to Charles Darwin.
Synonyms for habitat include: cave, dwelling, nest, home, domain, environment, territory, haven, etc. Any books with these as titles or as part of the summaries would count for this month’s theme!
I’m nominating The Cave Dwellers by Christina McDowell. It’s a look at Washington DC high society and what happens behind closed doors.
I’ll nominate The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates! The connection is that water is many animals’ habitat.
I'll nominate Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts, a story about finding where you belong by following your heart. A "habitat is where your heart is" kind of thing.
I'll nominate Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. A group of scientists explore a very unique and unexplained habitat.
I will second The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Goodreads wont let me do a search it keeps telling me to read a book in meantime so I will link later if needed.
I’d like to nominate The High House by Jessie Greengrassfrom the blurb:
In this powerful, highly anticipated novel from an award-winning author, four people attempt to make a home in the midst of environmental disaster.
...
A searing novel that takes on parenthood, sacrifice, love, and survival under the threat of extinction, The High House is a stunning, emotionally precise novel about what can be salvaged at the end of the world.
Links to the theme:1) the book title contains House, 2) people attempting to make a new home and also 3) the environmental aspect (threat to habitat)

I second this one:)
I'd like to nominate Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy. The connection is that the main character is a biologist who is reintroducing wolves back into their natural habitat.

I second this nomination. 🐺
I would like to nominate Watership Down by Richard Adams. It's about the loss of a warrens home due to the intrusion of man (the threat to their habitat) and their dangerous search for a new place to live.
Megan wrote: "Synonyms for habitat include: cave, dwelling, nest, home, domain, environment, territory, haven, etc. Any books with these as titles or as part of the summaries would count for this month’s theme!"Using the word "home" from this list, I will nominate Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs :)

I’d like to nominate An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal Hidden Realms Around Us, by Ed Yong. It’s non-fiction but very highly rated and it’s gotten great reviews in the NYT.
SarahKat wrote: "I'll nominate Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. A group of scientists explore a very unique and unexplained habitat."
Seconded Annihilation.

Time to nominate books for April! The theme is Habitat.
~Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate.
~Books we have read less than three years ago are not eligble. To see which books are not eligble, see this google sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
~ Each person can nominate 1 book.
~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.
~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.
~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.
~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.
This thread will be closed by February 26th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose "seconded" books first. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.
