YA Addicted Book Club discussion

Hi all,
Me and Brittany are buddy reading A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet. I'm starting today but I'm working 8:30am - 7pm so doubt I will read much today. Britt is starting Wednesday I think. Feel free to join us.

So I finished my other read faster than expected and managed to start this one today. Only listened to just over a chapter but its captured my attention so far. I like the circus/fair location to start!

Also eww Kay, that's a long work day for you.

I'm in chapter 5 near the beginning of it somewhere. (view spoiler)[ Instalust stockholm syndrome much? The good old he abducted me but he's so hot he turns me on but no that's bad trope.
Aside from that, I'm liking the set-up for the world so far. I'd like more about what the gods are capable of and just really everything to do with them. How do you feel about the usage of Greek gods so far?
Kat seems interesting. I am sad we have left the circus already. Those characters were intriguing and hopefully some of them make an appearance again. (hide spoiler)]

about 1/3 of the way into chapter 9 (view spoiler)[ So she can absorb drugs too that are magic based. Definitely interesting! Everything was pink. So embarrassing for her afterwards.
Who do you think exactly is after Kat now that she bled somewhere?
Im not sure how I feel about Griffin. The whole yeah I abducted you but get over it and be a part of my cause and all that isn't doing it for me. I think he will grow on me though, he does seem to be pretty caring in general. The ocular dream thing sent to him by Poseidon to go find her and make her his was at least a different way to do the fated mate type thing. (hide spoiler)]

Mostly done chapter 12 (view spoiler)[ Almost dying and conveniently being close enough to the circus for them to heal her and her new friends and her finally realizing that Griffin is immune to harmful magic was something. Understandably her circus friends are hurt and confused by her obsession with the man who abducted her and how she is telling him more after such a short time than she ever did to them in 8 years. I said I wanted more of the circus but this isn't how I meant.
I want to know how the meeting with the serpent dream thing that wasnt a dream but was something actually works. More magic details not just this is magic/gods.

Im up to chapter 24 but I dont feel like I have much to say. I wish she would admit who she is already

I finished it, meh? I don't get the hype some good things but really its a romance with some fantasy elements not a fantasy book.

I'm half way, and I'm already very meh. I will finish it, but I'm definitely not loving it.

I really tried. But I'm DNF'ing at Chapter 22. I'm just super bored and I have no interest in it. So I'm cutting my losses and DNF'ing. Hopefully our next buddy read will be a better book.

Agreed! We need to read a good one together again
