So much happens in this chunk!! Ahhh! I love seeing Emily come out of her shell and finally becoming part of this group of friends that accidentally came together.I was actually shocked by chapter 9, the title of break something, because she already broke sunglasses earlier in the book, but then it was talking about how Emily broke Gideon's heart and she realized that she had already crossed that off the list before it even reached her... so heartwrenching.
I was also shocked to see, in a flashback, Emily taking a stand for herself against Sloan when it came to sneaking into the bar. That took a lot of courage, and I was happy that, even then, she did exercise it.
I was taken aback by how... tame... Emily's interaction with Sam was. I honestly expected it to be way worse, because I saw him as the emotionally abusive snake that he is waaaaay when he was first introduced. Still sucks, and I'm glad Sloane got rid of him.
"You're the brightest thing in the room," he said... "You shine."
"I was still a little amazed that this was happening. That this, the thing that had seemed so impossible, so terrifying, so utterly beyond me, was happening. I was having fun. And that I was the one who made it happen."
Things have certainly accelerated in this chunk of the book. More stuff is happening and the chapters are getting shorter. I like that Emily might be seeing her relationship with Sloane in a slightly more realistic way now.The list is nearly finished and there's a fair chunk of the book still to go. I'm interested to see what happens if Sloane or Lissa return. Will things go back to the way they were or has everyone moved on from their previous friendships?
I'm scared for Sloane and Lissa to return. I love this friend group and I think they're good for each other. I don't think Sloane is good for Emily and I'm not sure if Lissa is good for Frank.
Wow, the whole speed of the book really changed. The first 6 chapters took up over half of the book and now they're becoming a lot shorter. Emily and Frank, please get together! There's so much sexual tension there, especially after the skinny dipping.
I think the change of pace is nice, because it parallels Emily's change of attitude. The beginning of the book was so slow because Emily kept rethinking everything, and remembering Sloane. Now, there are no more flashbacks, and she's just doing things spontaneously. It's good to see the change in her character. I'm also glad that we get to see that Sloane was not perfect, although I feel that's how anybody thinks back to previous friendships when newer, better people come along. When Emily first met Sloane, she thought back to how her previous friends were mean to her. And now that she's made friends with this new group, she's thinking back to how Sloane was mean to her (not sure if mean is the most accurate word here, though).
I like how Amanda put it "The change of pace parallels Emily's attitude...". I totally agree with comment. And I may sound like a broken record mirroring so many of the previous comments, but I almost hope Sloane does come back because I would hate for her to ruin the great dynamic between Emily, Frank, Dawn, and Collins. And I still am waiting for Frank and Emily to be a couple. Get together already, everyone's waiting!
