I took a sick day from work when this was first released and blew through it. It was so, so good! I have since re-read once and listened to the audio a few times. The audio is fantastic! John Slattery is a such a good reader, and the perfect voice for Edgar.

Es de esos libros de los cuales no esperas demasiado y sin embargo, te llena todos los requisitos! Me encanto! .... It`s one of those books from which you do not expect much and yet, it fills all the requirements!! ... I love it! ... From Argentina....
I haven't read this one in years, so I'll take the chance and will be joining the group read. Just have to finish my current book first.
This is absolutely one of my favorite King books. I recommend it to everyone even those who say they don't like horror. The relationship of the characters is just so damn amazing. And Kandice is right, the audiobook is wonderful, great to listen to on long trips.
This is the book that convinced me to give Mr. King a second chance. I'll be rereading this one with y'all.
Just started reading it for the second time. Forget how good it was and can’t wait to get home tomorrow after work so I can read some more!
Latasha, I agree. I finally arrived at Duma Key and hope the story will pick up from there on. I'm no huge fan of Edgar so far. It's my second read and I only remember little of the story. Usually I like King's slow and comprehensive character buildup. But I haven't been able to get into the flow of reading so far.
I actually end up really liking Edgar. Of course we see him at his worst first, but I feel King redeems him when he gets to Duma Key. And Wireman? That guy is just awesome sauce.

WIREMAN... one of King's very best characters. I liked the slow build-up. After reading too many novels that just crashed into the story without any character development at all I was impressed with King's opening.
I remember I really liked this one but what hit me while listening this time was PICKMAN’S MODEL. Here’s why I think that- (view spoiler)

I read this a couple years ago. It's definitely one of my favorites! I felt every known emotion while reading this!
I'm a quarter through. The story begins to pick up and gets more interesting with the introduction of Wireman and Elizabeth.
Hi Fellow King Readers,I have finished my reading this month of "Duma Key" and posted my review in the following link:

I really found myself being won over by my personal connections with the characters in this one, which helped me ignore some of the complaints I had from a plotting perspective.
Also, you may want to finish your reading before reading my review, so it doesn't spoil anything for you.
Here' s to great reading and see you next month for King's next book - another short story collection, "Just After Sunset".
Best wishes,
Scott.

Once again, Scott, we're on the same page. I found this a book that non-King readers (like my wife) were simply amazed by... probably because the characters and their relationships overwhelmed the horror. The whole King-reading world agrees that Wireman is certainly one of his best characters and the family relationships (especially father-daughter) are the heart of the story. I didn't mind the slow build and ended up giving it 4 stars only because the villains didn't seem as strong as they could have been. Still, all in all, one of KIng's best later works.

Hi Nick, I certainly agree with your comments, especially the ones regarding the villains. We only see the Lady in Red like once in the whole book, which I struggled with. And yes, the key for me was that that the relationships overwhelmed the horror aspects.
Have a great weekend. I have already started Just After Sunset to get a head start on next month.

I finished this book a few weeks ago, as I don't keep up the pace, but that's okay with me.I really liked this book. The characters were lovable and/or relatable in some ways, the setting was different from most books I read and it was a nice change of scenery, I thought the pacing of the story was superb, and the (view spoiler)

I definitely will read this book again in the future, and was very glad it was the book for that month.

Duma Key is one of my favorite King books of the 21st Century, but I get where you are coming from on the ending.
Been a long time since I read this but after looking it up and refreshing my brain cell I remember this book very well. I loved the idea of what happens and am a little unsure why you didn't like the ending. Would be interested to understand why..? :)
Just finished Duma Key. What a whopper of a book - 625 pages. Definitely a slow-burn but enjoyed it overall. First two-thirds felt like I was on a sunny vacation in Florida. Characters were pretty good. Freemantle and Wireman's friendship seemed really genuine. The payoff in the end was not bad, if not a bit confusing.

Agreed! Especially on Wireman, I'd love to have him as a best friend!
