In the story, they crash –the pilot dies?– and afterwards they both take shelter in the remains of the plane. The kid must deal with his father wound, that is infected, and causes the father to be feverish. The kid must also deal with survival. Finally, some local tribe comes to help, and the local wise man does some kind of treatment to break the father's fever. Read probably in the eighties and that's just about all I remember.

Nope, but interesting now I read about it :) In the story I remember, I think the boy was alone, as his father was mostly feverish and unconscious, while in Thunder Country there are other characters.

It was definitely a jungly, rainforesty setting? There are plenty of plane crash books from that era, but they almost all take place in colder climates.

Amazon's short "Look Inside" preview of The Place of Lions by Eric Campbell - bookel's suggestion:

Kirkus Review:
- "A London teenager eagerly follows his father to a new life in Tanzania—and straight into disaster. When their light plane crashes in the Serengeti, only Chris is uninjured enough to go for help. Not only natural dangers stand between him and the nearest settlement; there's also a deadly pair of ivory poachers, who are surprised in action and vengefully chased by an American and a retired game warden who's there on a photographic safari; an aging lion, undertaking his last journey, also closely parallels Chris's course. ..."

I never knew there were so many books with "Survival, plane crash" themes. I've checked the list on Library Thing and the African one. I will keep looking at lists by genre in the hope of finding some other clue. Thanks to everyone for so many ideas.

I add all of mine to this one:Plane Crashes: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
I have Crash in the Jungle (1979) on my list. Obnoxious title, but hey, maybe? Not sure page count is correct.
Found the book! A friend made me realize that, at that time, I had probably read a translation and so the book could have been much older and not necessarily English. It turned out to be «Aterrizaje en la Selva» («Landing in the Jungle»),
which is «Im Banne des Amazonas» (1960) in the original, by German author Hanns Radau,
In which Jochen and his father crash-land on the Amazonian forest. Very thankful for all the ideas; this group is a lifesaver!
Awesome! Thanks so much for coming back with the titles! <3Aterrizaje En LA Selva/Landing in the Jungle
