message 4: by Clare (new)

Clare fleckenstein | 8 comments yeah i want to read it with you

message 5: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments Hi Clare, welcome. As you can see we're taking it slow. I am curious what you both will think about it. Happy reading!

message 6: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments I'd like to join this book reading as well. glad you are taking it slow because I'm juggling several books atm

message 7: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments Hi Anushka. Same about the books too many on my tbr.

message 8: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments So i read the first three chapters and boy! The world building is making my brain turn to mush! Anyone else feeling that way?

message 9: by Lex (new)

Lex yup I feel the same way it’s so much information but I’m liking it so far! I’ve heard from a lot of people who’ve read priory that it’s overwhelming at first but it’s such a good book

message 10: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments oh yes. I've crossed the overwhelming stage and now I'm totally into the intrigued phase. don't worry. I'm liking it now. I have a feeling I'm going fast though... as in faster than what we had planned. I'd probably be done with part 1 in 2-3 days. should I wait to start part 2 till April 8th like we decided?

message 11: by Lex (new)

Lex nah you don’t have to, I think the dates are more for “let’s get everyone done with this part so we can discuss it” but it’s okay if you read ahead!!

message 12: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments cool. I can't wait to discuss the first part with everyone. I won't say anything right now because it might spoil something but ohmygod! Dragons! How cool! I swear it was the dragon on the cover that convinced me to read this one and I'm glad I did.

message 13: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments Page 70 how Ead tells this story with her thoughts between is a really good way to stoke curiousity. And I am liking most characters so far. Go Tané!

message 14: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments Yes! Tané is the boss! I just wish she was more confident in her own talent. I'm not liking a few characters but this is just the first part. I know better than to actively dislike someone at the moment. I have a feeling a lot is about to change. This book is constantly keeping me on my toes, constantly guessing. It's fun!

message 15: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments The lack of any real romance is a bit of a challenge though. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

message 16: by Lex (new)

Lex Yesss I’m loving Ead and Tané but funnily enough their 2 story lines are the only ones I’m caring about rn 😂 the fantasy is keeping me excited enough to make up for the lack of romance right now (I don’t count Sulyard and Truyde lol)

message 17: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments haha. I don't think anyone cares about sulyard and truyde's romance. it's too childish and fanciful for my tastes

message 18: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments I actually like the stories about Loth and Niclays too. Niclay because I find him in his spiteness quite funny. And Loth with the whole palace intrigue. So good. Also Dragon!

message 19: by Lex (new)

Lex Oh for sure Niclays and Loth’s stories are good, I just find Ead and Tané’s stories more interesting haha, I’m interested to know more about Niclays and Loth’s backstories tho

message 20: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments For a while there, I thought Ead and Loth might have been lovers. Turns out I'm wrong. Sadly. I quite like these two characters more than most.

message 21: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments Also does anyone think Tané might have some enemies to lovers romance in the later chapters with Turosa or am I mad to think that and Turosa is just beyond horrible?

message 22: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments I'm just saying so because things turned out somewhat similar in The Cruel Prince? Has anyone here read that one?

message 23: by Lex (new)

Lex I’m currently reading The Cruel Prince, but I THINK Priory is a sapphic romance (plz correct me if I’m wrong) so I think the romance will be Ead & Tané MAYBE

message 24: by Lex (new)

Lex Or MAYBE the Queen and Ead?? We haven’t gotten much from Queen Sabran tho so I’m not sure

message 25: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments I don't like the Queen so hopefully no relationship between them. Wouldn't mind Tané and Turosa but a not seeing it and b it is promoted as sapphic or as woman centric. Air Folk was a good series but I still have to read Stolen Heir.

message 26: by Lex (new)

Lex I don’t know much about the Queen but I’m hoping we get more background and info about her bc she seems interesting

message 27: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments I haven't read Stolen Heir either. It's been on my TBR for quite a long time now. ah! so many books! so little time! anyway, yes, TPotOT is a sapphic romance but that doesn't mean that some characters can't be hetero. I'm guessing from the first part that Ead and Sabran will be love interests and have that savior-saved a. k. a. protector-protected trope going for them. I can't be sure about Tané though. Could be anything. the way the stories of these people are moving, I wouldn't be surprised if Loth and Tané ended up together. Literally anything seems possible right now. I wish to see more of the dragons though! Does anyone find it strange that the dragons can SPEAK? I for sure felt a bit off-kilter because of it but maybe I'll grow to like it in time. it's different and intriguing for sure

message 28: by Lex (new)

Lex Yeah you’re right I’m really not sure what’s gonna happen with Tané, maybe she won’t even have a romantic arc?? YES like everytime I see the dragons talking I’m imagining that they’re speaking telepathically lmaooo I can’t imagine them actually opening their mouths and speaking words

message 29: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments hahahah yess! Telepathic convos seem more realistic. After all, the only real exposure to dragons my mind has had is through Game of Thrones and those dragons didn't seem to have too high an intellect. They seemed to be servants to their Kings/Queens. But these dragons are way more majestic and independent in their way.

message 30: by Lex (new)

Lex I love seeing the different interpretations of dragons across different fantasy worlds

message 31: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments they're truly majestic creatures! it's infuriating that Sabran and her queendom calls them wyrms but well, their ancestors did suffer at their hands and that of the Nameless One. oooh. does anyone else get that voldemort vibe from the nameless one? haha. he who shall not be named. I'm dying to see the nameless one even if every character wishes that he must not wake from his enchanted coma like sleep.

message 32: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments nothing like a grand villain to raise the stakes and make everything a lot more interesting! haha

message 33: by Lex (new)

Lex I totally got Voldemort vibes from the Nameless one, I’m interested to know more about what went down in the past war too but maybe the sequel/prequel is about that? I have it on my shelf and will 100% be reading it after Priory!

message 34: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments Let's do a quick check as to where we are in the story and what we like/dislike at this point? Or any personal observation about the story upto this point really.

message 35: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments I have read as far as 23 chapters, i.e. I also read the first chapter of Part 2 that we're meant to read after April 8th before forcibly stopping myself and distracting myself with other books. But, in my defense, the first Part ended at a point that was way too curiosity provoking for me!

message 36: by Lex (new)

Lex okay so I’m nowhere near the end of part 1 but I’m doing the best I can to finish part 1 by the end of this week 😅 I ended up being really busy but I’ll do my best! I’m really liking it so far and I find everyone’s stories so interesting, I’m wanting to know every little detail. I will admit I’m reading this one at a slower pace than normal because I don’t wanna miss anything important

message 37: by Lex (new)

Lex So far I really wanna know the beef between the East & West and why the story of Queen Sabran’s ancestor is told differently, with the West portraying her as a damsel in distress. I’m also so interested in the politics even if it’s a little confusing haha, I wanna know all of the history behind the dragons as well as the Nameless one. I’m most interested in Ead at this point, but I’m hoping I’ll become interested in Loth and Niclays more

message 38: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments There's no reason to rush it, Lex. Take your time. You're right that so much seems to be going on in this book that even I worry at times that I might miss something important. I'm interested in Ead the most out of all, as well. I can't explain what it is about her that entices me so --maybe it is her powers or the fact that she hails from the Priory of the Orange tree which is the namesake of this book. haha.

message 39: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments And oh yes! the conflicting stories about Sab's ancestor really intrigue me. Ead calls that ancient Queen, "the mother" and that brings up so many possibilities in my mind as to maybe that queen was a sorceress or witch too, maybe? She knew of the Priory, that's for sure.

message 40: by Lex (new)

Lex yes that’s what I’m wondering too, also why they seem to fear the magic that Ead is able to do. I remember her saying that she can’t let them know she’s able to use it bc they’d call it sorcery and clearly it’s something she’s learned from the Priory but why does the West or at least Sabran & her people view it as a bad thing?

message 41: by Lex (new)

Lex I just wanna know why the west view the ancient Queen that way if she was a powerful woman on her own 😭 Especially since Sabran seemed to be offended when Ead started telling the actual story

message 42: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments 204 oh good we have a 1000+ year old possible evil witch roaming around! Sabrans dreams are terrifying. Dragging Ead from court would be a bad idea. Also the dragons are really cool. Even the evil ones.

message 43: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments Finished part one. So much is happening! :-o Loth storyline expanded so much, wow. And Tané a rider, hopefully nobody talks to the police. And Ead my oh my; the dragon episode and her budding friendship/relationship with the queen (which I still don't like, sorry).

message 44: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments ooooh. the police thing with Tané is for sure about to get messy. I have a strong feeling. Ead and the Queen are headed towards some sort of bond but I don't see how that can be romantic when the Queen has already chosen a consort? maybe they intend the consort to die? what else is there? I doubt they'll make the Queen a cheater or a bigamist?

message 45: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments also, did anyone else find Sab's wedding weird? I don't know what really bothered me about the ceremony but I wasn't really a fan of it. it seemed all sorts of strange to me. probably because it was a night event maybe? I don't know. I can't explain what I'm trying to say. haha

message 46: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments I found it not per se weird but uncomfortable written since Sabran doesn't truly want to marry. Every time someone smiled it didn't reached their eyes (except the Night Hawk he was trilled). She clutched at her friend Rosline and probably mourned her other friends. Arabella died and Loth was as good as dead as far as she knew. Not the best athmosphere.

message 47: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments yeah the atmosphere was forlorn. that must have been it. I'm only reading like one chapter a day now because I don't want to get too far ahead the others but it's going good. the story is really picking up pace now.

message 48: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 159 comments Cheater! ;-) B-) Lex hiw far are you?

message 49: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Malik (_anushkamalik) | 196 comments I can tell you that i am far enough that i want to say something in the group but I'm scared I will spoil something for the others and therefore I'm doing everything I can to remain silent! and let me tell you, it's. NOT. EASY!!!

message 50: by Lex (new)
