When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
I didn't realize that was YA, Heather - look forward to hearing how you like it. I've had my eye on it for a couple years.

Yes, it’s YA. The main character is 17-yr-old Elissa, newcomer to a Seattle suburb who becomes mixed up in the town’s old secrets. Finished it tonight. Not bad overall, though there was a bit of a plot hole in chapter 17.
I think I just crossed off a PopSugar Challenge prompt with this one. I thought the movie was based on the book, since the cover says “now a major motion picture.” However, the title page says that it is “based on the screenplay of David Loucka/From a story by Jonathan Mostow.” Love it when I can check off prompts without even trying!

Here's my 4.49 rounded to 4 stars review of The Lonely Hearts Book Club
by Lucy Gilmore:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
What a wonderful find! Overall, this was an entertaining, heartwarming, and engaging story of lonely misfits finding each other. It pulls on the emotions and heartstrings at times.
I listened to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
. I am obsessed with these books and wish there were more by Steig Larsson!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.19 rounded to 4 stars review of Gardening at Longmeadow
by Montagu Don:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading The Verifiers
by Jane Pek. Set in NYC. Our main character, Claudia, works for a company that verifies people who use social media apps to date. Fun very modern book.
Hi I'm currently reading Things We Hide From The Light by Lucy Score. It's part of the Knockemout series.
Read this past week:
* Electra by Sophocles
* The Dream of a Ridiculous Man by Fyodor Dostoevsky
* Yukon Ho! by Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes #3)

Picked up an old Fear Street this week to get out of my reading slump - so far it's working!Party Summer by R.L. Stine
Here is my 4.67 rounded to 5 stars review of The Instructor
by T.R. Hendricks:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this exciting debut novel is a powerful page-turner with great world-building details and tension that was almost alive. It is a military action thriller with a lot of violence. Hendricks balances the shocking and upsetting aspects of the novel well against the mystery of the group he’s training and Derek’s love of his family.
Here is my 3.86 rounded to 4 stars review of
A Problem Princess by Anna Harrington:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Anna Harrington provides readers with a regency historical fiction tale that includes romance, danger, and suspense in the sixth and final book in the Lords of the Armory series.
My review for
The Double Bind a brilliant sequel by AA Loraine Peckhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
- nice memoir. Slow start for me but in the end really moving. It was my book club's March read.
Here's my 4.02 rounded to 4 stars review for Defiant Mate by Delta James:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a paranormal romantic suspense novel set on Kodiak Island in Alaska. It was entertaining, suspenseful, and had great characters, but was a little too short.
My review for
The Wonderful Thing About Phoenix Rose by Josephine Moonhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
Red Jack and the Ragged Thirteen by Greg Barronhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished this week:
* Weirdos from Another Planet! by Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes #4) — Have enjoyed revisiting this favorite comic strip.
* Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park — I first read this while in middle school (7th or 8th grade) and remember loving it. A few years ago I found a copy at the library’s used book sale, and have been meaning to reread it for some time. So glad I pulled it out for my Australian book. It’s been so long since I first read it that about the only thing I remembered is that it was set in Sydney and involved time travel.

She was originally from New Zealand Heather, but we happily claim her as our own now. I've enjoyed some of her books as well :)

I saw in her bio that she was born in NZ, but moved to Australia — and I did set the challenge for either an Aussie author or set in Australia. This one stood the test of time for me.

Starting off the week with
The Truth We Hide by Liz Milliron https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just finished book 2 of The Expanse series, Caliban's War. I'm listening to this series on audiobook and each one is like 20 hours long. Before starting the third one I have a couple of shorter audiobooks I'm going to listen to because I need a small break from a long book plus I have a hold on it on the Libby app so I have to wait anyway.
Here is my 3.49 rounded to 3 stars review of The Wild Girls
by Phoebe Morgan:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This psychological thriller was atmospheric and thought-provoking. If you enjoy locked-room thrillers, then this may be one you will enjoy.
Here is my 3.66 rounded to 4 stars review of Misfit
by Elle Kennedy:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a new adult novel full of angst and drama. There are plenty of secrets, unlawful activities, bullying, romance, and spicy scenes woven into the story as well as how grief affects different people.
