50 books to read before you die discussion

hii everyone !! i was just wondring if the pride and prejudice's english level was "hard" to read?? like if i understand a B2 english level could i fluently read the book?
i mean its one of the book i have to read before dying right:')

I think you would be fine! Plus there are many notes and guides online if there are any parts you don't understand. English is my first language and I often read summaries for classics to deepen my understanding. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books so if you have any questions, just leave another comment <3

hii! my first language is french and my second is english. i've read pride and prejudice and i must say that at first, it's off-putting but if you take your time at first, it's going to flow easily. you simply have to remember that people weren't so direct with their words so sometimes they say something and you have deduct what they meant and that people in the regency era were artful with their conversations. but overall, b2 level, you'll be just fine! :))

First language english speakers can find use in an annotated copy, or simply a dictionary app. I think you'll be just fine !)as long as you're not discouraged about using such things. Fluent speakers usually do as well! Reading a bit about a classic book (such as an introduction in a Penguin Classics edition, or some info online) can also be very useful before jumping in.

Hi! Im in the middle of reading Pride and Prejudice and I really need some help/explanation. Chapters 35-37 have me very, very confused. I keep mixing up who is who and I have no clue what
Darcy wrote in his letter to Elizabeth. Like, who did what? And now who's the bad guy? I'm just very very lost. Helppp

In the editions of Pride & Prejudice I have, the chapters are numbered slightly differently (with each volume starting from chapter 1 again) but I should have the right part from you mentioning Darcy's letter...

(view spoiler)[ Darcy thought Jane (Elizabeth's older sister) didn't love Mr Bingley (the new neighbour and "man in possession of a good fortune") as much as he loved her, potentially she was just after Bingley's money. Darcy was also put-off by the behaviour of her three younger sisters and her mother. So in order to "protect" Bingley he told him that Jane was indifferent to him.

Mr Wickham (from the militia) has know Darcy for years. He told Elizabeth that Darcy stole the inheritance he deserved from Darcy's father. Turns out he's dishonest and in a lot of debt. Tried to run away and marry Darcy's sister in order to get her fortune previously.

So from the letter Elizabeth suddenly sees Mr Wickham and Darcy in a completely different light. Wickham is the bad guy. Darcy made mistakes and there were misunderstandings, but he explains them. Wickham has bad intentions. (hide spoiler)]
