Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel by Megan Morrison - November 2023

I have an ebook on hold, so :sigh:.So, the blurb. We've got a 'blame the messenger' thing going on, it seems. And Jack... good fairy-tale name, but, not a prince?
Is this a kid's book? Or YA? (Any level is fine with me; I just like to know who it's marketed to before I begin.)
My copies of Rapunzel and Grounded just came into the library today, so I will pick them up Weds. or Thurs. Hopefully I will have time to finish Horseman by then and will be ready to start right in. My library had Grounded shelved as juvenile, with the projected targeted readers as grade 6-8, so we shall see. Might be kids, might be more YA. Either way, it sounds like a fun read.

Juvenile is where I found Grounded as well. I'm hoping it will be enjoyable.

No apologies, ever. Life happens, other books get prioritized. We need to always give ourselves grace.

I got the first two chapter read yesterday evening and like Gem says "something is going on in that tower"! I love it when a book leaves me questioning things from the very beginning.

Same. One of the reasons I love mysteries.

I have finished and have many thoughts about it, but will keep quiet for the mean time for the most part.
One thing that did strike me as I was reading the first part (and it continued through to the very end) is just how much Rapunzel is unaware of. She only knows what the witch has allowed her to know.
We learn so much from what we see and hear around us on a daily basis that we just take it for granted. I love that the author used this aspect so richly.

Summary
In all of Tyme, from the Redlands to the Grey, no one is as lucky as Rapunzel. She lives in a magic tower that obeys her every wish; she reads wonderful books starring herself as the heroine; her hair is the longest, most glorious thing in the world. And she knows this because Witch tells her so---her beloved Witch, who protects her from evil princes, the dangerous ground under the tower, even unhappy thoughts. Rapunzel can't imagine any other life.
Then a thief named Jack climbs into her room to steal one of her enchanted roses. He's the first person Rapunzel's ever met who isn't completely charmed by her (well, the first person she's met at all, really), and he is infuriating-- especially when he hints that Witch isn't telling her the whole truth. Driven by anger at Jack and her own nameless fears, Rapunzel descends to the ground for the first time, and finds a world filled with more peril than Witch promised ... and more beauty, wonder, and adventure than she could have dreamed.
