I read it in the mid 200's. What I remember is that it was a sister and two brothers. Maybe they went to live with their uncle or great-uncle. I remember the sister commenting how some of the flowers in front of the house looked squashed like the house was dropped onto it. The girl would stick her tongue in her cheek when thinking hard about something. The younger brother disappeared, and when he returned, he was mentally older but physically looked the same. The sister dressed up as a pirate (maybe Blackbeard), and a talking parrot pretended to be her voice.

Becca's suggestion of The Drift House: The First Voyage by Dale Peck sounds like your book.

Quotes from the book:
- As they got closer to the building Susan saw what appeared to be a yew bush half squashed under the sharp corner of the solarium, which again gave her the impression of a ship's prow ripping right through the garden. Yes, the house definitely seemed to be crooked in relation to the grounds.
- Susan stuck out the side of the cheek with her tongue, as she often did when she was considering her options.
- It really was Murray. "You sound older," he said. I mean, you're not talking like a five-year-old. You really don't remember anything more?"
- If Farley had had any lingering doubts that the old man in front of him was really his five-year-old nephew, they were dispelled by his last words.
