What do you make of Maria’s proposal to Izzy? Why him? Does his unwavering commitment to and love for Eden come as a surprise?

Maria needs a spouse if he want to go farther in her political career.
She was burned by the guy she loved and Izzy is HOT and smart and would make a great political spouse. Eden is very young and although Izzy is all in, she doesn't seem to be. Izzy wants it to work and is not going to accept any other outcome.

The proposal flattened me. I didn’t understand why she would think Izzy would be content with that situation. It was puzzling, especially since she knew his feelings for Eden. I know she trusted him but…

Perhaps her thinking was that "nothing ventured nothing gained". If he had said yes, then her problems would be solved so she had nothing to lose.
