Great American Read List discussion

The series for May 2023 follows the adventures of Tom Sawyer written by Mark Twain. The series appears at #17 of the Great American Read List and has a average Goodreads rating of 3.66, the first book was published in 1876.

I have read both Tom Sawyer (once) and Huck Finn (twice). When we read the latter in high school, I hated it — mostly because it was the first book read that year and the book to which every subsequent work was compared (not kidding—my sister hated it for the same reason). When I had to read it again four years later in college, I was not looking forward to it, but the instructor made all the difference and I (almost) enjoyed it. I have books three and four and have been hoping to get to at least one this year, but not sure if I can shoehorn it into this month, no matter how short they are. I still have four and a half books to finish this month for group reads and challenges.
