I got into reading in elementary school and our local library was my safe haven. It's where I could get all the books I wanted for free , my family was not well off so free was very important, and as many as I wanted. I didn't know about putting my name on a list to get current books so mainly I got my science fiction fix from the classics. Years later when i got the internet, at age 19, one of the first things i did was start looking up my favorite authors. I was dismayed to learn so many had passed. I had known about a few due to science fiction magazines doing remembrances. Tiptree jr's was one that hit me the hard due to the sad facts surrounding her death. All this just to say finding out about Sir Terry Pratchett's passing on the same day made it no easier. To be a reader is to care about a character's plots and their stories but also the writer. To have to loose them knowing that there was so much potential for future adventures is very hard.

I haven't started Discworld yet. I loved good omens and heard nothing but good things. This may be the catalyst. Sad to see a good mind go.
