Ok when I write reviews, I don't differentiate between mafia types. Like Italian, Russian, Mexican, Irish, etc. I just say mob/mafia to encompass all.
Is that something to matters to you? Stating the correct mafia gang??

Debra Johnson (debraptj) | 30 comments Doesn't really matter to me. I just tag it as mafia

message 3: by Cécile (new)

Cécile Smits | 24 comments It only matters to me if they’re from different countries in said story.
Otherwise i simply tag it as mafia as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's indifferent to it.

That's the way I think. Some people are super sensitive about it though. If you say mafia instead of bratva when the characters are Russian, then people get mad. Don't ask me to explain it! LOL

Debra Johnson (debraptj) | 30 comments Exactly. Even if you have more than one type Mafia in the book your reading warring against each other or working together, it's still just another Mafia story.

Cécile Smits | 24 comments The only reason you state where they’re from,is when there’s more than one. To avoid confusion. But they’re still all simply mafia….

❃A.J❃ (bibliophagist) I don't even know the difference between them lol. Mafia is Mafia, no need to be specific imo.

Céloise (celoise) | 0 comments I’m going to be the dork who says she likes differentiating between them. It makes me sound so cool and worldly, as if I had a fidanzato in Sicily before I met my novio in Colombia 🤓 Also I can justify reading romance novels all day by citing the fact that they’re so educational 🤌

LOL I definitely feel like I'm prepared for Mafia life based on all my books!! I'm also confident I can hide a body, should the need arise. 🤣🤣🤣

I used to know what Mafia meant! It starts out Mothers and Fathers Against...........? Of course that original thought sure changed. Does anyone recall what that was? Of course I ignore most of it anyway.
When I think of the Mafia I think of The Godfather.

message 24: by ~☆~Autumn (new)

~☆~Autumn google says:

Etymology. The word Mafia (English: /ˈmɑːfiə/; Italian: [ˈmaːfja]) derives from the Sicilian adjective mafiusu, which, roughly translated, means 'swagger', but can also be translated as 'boldness' or 'bravado'.

Karen Denise Foster | 2 comments I don't care as long as it's a good plot and it feels like mafia. For me the author has to make it "real" mafia. I want dark, twisted, violence with possessive, obsessive, hot as heck MMC who loves the FMC without limits.

Yes!! Love my reads with Russian accents. When you catch a good one, they can be really deep. I just finished a series with PERFECT narration. Nom nom nom.
