In honor of Memorial Day, Lovejoy Library and Military and Veteran Services is partnering to host Cicely Hunter, the public historian with the African American History Initiative at the Missouri Historical Society. Cicely’s presentation, "Memorial Day: Black American History that is Often Forgotten," will examine the little-known history of African Americans’ connection with the American holiday – Memorial Day – a day reserved for the remembrance of the brave spirit of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to their country.

Cicely Hunter is a doctoral candidate in the Department of American Studies at Saint Louis University, where she received her M.A. in 2016. Prior to Saint Louis University, Cicely received her B.A. in 2014 at Marquette University, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Africana Studies.

In her role with the African American History Initiative, Cicely teaches St. Louis's regional Black history through different mediums such as public radio, news stations, the Here's History podcast, social media, public presentations, exhibits and as the co-manager of The St. Louis American column. Previously, Cicely held the position of Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
