I read it and the whole series is now one of my favorites (I'd put it as equal with the Ascendance series). It's hilarious, adventurous, and has something for everyone. I'm an oldest sibling so my heart really goes out to Janner, the MC.

Isabella, since you've read the series, what would you say the target audience is? Would you say more middle grade or more YA?

Middle grade for sure. The main characters are 9-12 at the beginning of the series, I believe, and there's only a few possible crushes among the kids. I'm a believer in the quote that a good kids book isn't only enjoyed by kids, though (obviously)

I totally agree, Isabella! While the series was loved by my then-middle-grade son, I loved it as well. There is so much depth in these books! I am looking forward to rereading it, although the first book isn't my favorite.

Yes! One of the things I love is how he was able to convey so much truth with simplicity, much like the Narnia books.

I love this series! (And yes it is MG, but it is fantastic to read older as well.)

And I just got my copy from the library today :)

This whole series is so good. Y’all will love it. Even though it’s a children’s series, I only read it a couple years ago, and I resonated with the characters in a way I never have with others. Particularly one of the siblings.
I hope you all fall in love with this world and these wonderful fictional people!

I really hope you love it! However, if you don't love this first book, I recommend reading the 2nd. The series builds to a wonderful crescendo throughout the books, and I don't think you get to see that coming in this book.

Yes, that's how I feel about them! Takes me out of the story, yet I am drawn to read them nonetheless XD

Same XD I find them pretty amusing but also I kinda like how it gives a respectable background for the series in cute way. Like you can tell that the books that are referenced aren’t real, but it makes the new fantasy world seem credible, as far as credibility for fantasy stories goes

I think I made my husband watch the first season with me. I don't love it. 🤷‍♀️ I don't love the animation, and like you said, they did change a lot of things. (I just don't remember what.)

I liked the art style of the series and the music a lot, but I do think it was too different in some places. Hopefully the next season will improve on that front.

Do you mean bizarre when you say "different"? I thought so too, if that is what you meant. It gets better, imo, as the series continues.
