Update: Because some of you have to reserve books earlier I think it would be better for them to plan reading one month ahead. So this month, we will nominate and choose for two months, July and August. So, in July we will choose a book for September and so on.

------------------------------

Please write here which book would you like to read in July and August.

The full list of VMC books you can find on https://www.virago.co.uk/imprint/lbbg.... (Someday they will all be on our to-read list, for now, check the Virago site.)

Some basic rules:

1. One member can nominate 1 or 2 books per month.
2. If there will be more than 6 nominations - only the first nomination of each member will be taken into account.
3. The poll will have no more than 6 options.
4. If there will be more than 6 options (more than 6 members nominate different books) the first nominations will be chosen (first come, first served).
5. The time for nomination will be closed when we will have 6 different books from 6 members or on the 20th of June. Then there will be time for voting on the poll for a week (to the 28th of June).

If you have suggestions to rules please write them in the thread about those rules.

July:

Invitation to the Waltz by Rosamond Lehmann

August:

The Semi-Attached Couple and the Semi-Detached House by Emily Eden

I already have copies of both of these.

Marilyn I already have these on the list:

July: The Tortoise and the Hare by Elizabeth Jenkins

August: The Echoing Grove by Rosamond Lehmann

Christine PNW (moonlight_reader) | 16 comments maven, I read The Towers of Trebizond by Rose Macaulay (NYRB edition) last year & really liked it. I actually checked The World is My Wilderness out of my library after finishing it, but never got to it.

I also read The Feast by Margaret Kennedy last year (Faber edition) which is a supremely fun summertime read & I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something that is propulsive but also not a modern thriller. It sort of flooded social media after the Faber edition was released, which is how I got turned on to it.

I'm intrigued by both of those nominations!

These also both look SO GOOD!

Robin P | 57 comments I read the Virago of The Tortoise and the Hare a year or so ago, and I liked it a lot.

Ooh, I keep meaning to read this one, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Would definitely be interested in reading it.

We have 7 different nominations for two next months, at this moment. Theoretically, I have set the max at 12 (6 for each month). So if someone wants to add - there is still time. Of course, if no more nominations appeared we will choose from these 7. It will be a hard choice as it is ;-)

Laura (loranne) | 320 comments Great thanks - found the various threads and folders. I use my phone and it just gives some notifications - but anyway - I've read through and really pleased to see the group back in action. Thanks to the moderators Mela and Christine.
Yes - I've read Lehmann and Macaulay and Eden - so will probably opt for Margaret Kennedy or Elizabeth Jenkins - great!

Hi, everyone.

I think that there won't be new nominations this time, so I'm going to take advantage of that there is the weekend now and I have some free time now. So, I am closing the time for nomination. If you want to nominate another book, do it for September (I will open a thread soon).

Because some of you haven't specified the month and you have named seven different books in total, this time there are two polls with the same list of books. Please vote on both polls.

Here is the link for the two polls

maven (mavenbooks) | 8 comments For what it's worth, I didn't specify a month because I assumed the 2 books that got the most votes would be selected. Like top most votes for July, second most for August.

So, we have winners.

In July we are going to read The Tortoise and the Hare.

In August we are going to read Invitation to the Waltz.

I invite you also to nominate a book for September - do it in this thread.
