Rosemary checked her bag again, just to see if it was still there even though she knew it couldn't have disappeared in the last thirty seconds. No one was around to vanish it and even if there were then why would they? She took a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself. There was nothing to be nervous about.
Kyra was sulking in the shadows of the corridor, with nothing better to do. She noticed an anxious Hufflepuff girl glancing around like she had something to hide. A smile flickered on her lips. She strolled out in front of the girl. "Well, hello. Whatcha doing there? What's in that bag?" she asked innocently. Obviously, her intentions were the opposite of innocent.
Okay maybe there was something to be nervous about, she corrected herself taking in the dark haired Gryffindor girl approaching her. She set her jaw both out of anxiety and determination. “Nothing that concerns you.” Rosemary knew the question was her fault, checking your bag nervously every few seconds tended to draw attention to it after all. “Now I have somewhere else to be so I’ll be going.”
Was that fear in the girl's blue eyes that she spotted? "Of course it concerns me," she said cheerily. "How could it not, now that you've gotten me involved?" She grinned. "Let me see the bag." She grabbed it out of the girl's hands and tilted her head. What would a Hufflepuff girl be keeping in here? Plants? She snorted.
Rosemary drew her wand from her sleeve and cast the summoning charm causing her bag to be magically yanked from the girl's hands and fly towards her. She snatched it out of the air and slung it back on her shoulder. "You got yourself involved, now leave before I jinx you," she warned, keeping her reluctance to herself. She'd never liked dueling, or hurting and threatening people for that matter, but Lily had made her learn for her own safety since Hufflepuffs were seen as easy prey for bullies like the one she was dealing with now.
Kyra's eyes widened. "Whoa, whoa, who. No need to get your knickers in a twist. Calm down, girl. You're Rosemaroon, right?" she grimaced. "Ooh, that's not your name, is it?" She tapped her foot on the ground, trying to think of her name. "This should be easy, you're in my year!" She squeezed her eyes shut, then after a moment, popped them open again. "Oh! It's Rosemary, right?"
“And you’re Kyra, Kyra Tucker. But knowing my name isn’t going to make me all of sudden trust you.” But Rosemary did lower her wand although she didn’t put it away, deciding it better to be at the ready. “What do you want, apart from bullying me that is?” She almost cringed, it seemed dueling wasn’t the only thing her sister had taught her, Rose must have picked up some of her traits. Such as this bluntness.
Kyra grinned. "Ooh, points to you. Yep, Kyra Tucker at your service." She tilted her head as she put the wand away. Well, not completely away. But it was progress, right? Kyra giggled. "I'm not bullying you, silly. I'm just annoying you. I tend to do that a lot. Annoying is just one of the few things you can call me." She glanced at the bag. Why was she so protective of it?
Rosemary was glad she'd guessed right, she new most names from the hospital wing records even if she couldn't always connect them to a face. "Well then if you're done annoying me I'm just going to leave. I have somewhere to be." It was true, Rosemary was listening anxiously for the sound of the clocktower bells that signified the hour. She couldn't be late.
Kyra raised her eyebrows with a smirk. "Oh really? Somewhere that has to do with that something in that mysterious bag of yours?" she said, quite annoyingly. She grabbed her wand, ready to try out some of her spells. Aparecium wouldn't work most likely, but Revelio could, and Homenum Revelio might if there was a person in the bag, which was pretty unlikely.
Rosemary sighed, more annoyed and frustrated than anything now. She had better not be late because of this girl. "Fine you want to see what it is?" She waved her wand, tossing the bag in the air and making it float there as if in water. The contents drifted out and floated in a circle around the now empty bag. School books, quills and ink, homework and blank parchment- all normal things that every student had. Then a bottle drifted out, tinted green glass with a curved neck and a sealed cork stopper.
Kyra glanced around in awe at the spell. She never knew that Rosemary was such a good witch at this kind of stuff. She did remember hearing a rumor that there was a girl in Hufflepuff who was the best duelist in their year. "Remind me not to get on your bad side," she murmured, glancing at the items floating. Her hand raised up and snatched the potion from the air. "What's this?"
Rosemary pursed her lips, she'd been hoping the bottle wouldn't draw much attention. "It's an assignment, and it's due any minute now." It was also very important, but she didn't want to say that and risk something happening to it because of value which it didn't really have.
Kyra peered at the bottle. Rosemary had seemed very tense as soon as she had grabbed it out of the air. "If it's due any minute now, you should probably go turn it in. I'll come with you!" she said cheerfully. "On the way, you can tell me what it is." She kept a firm grip on the bottle.
Rosemary fought to keep her face straight. “Alright…” she said, waving her wand so all the contents of her bag drifted back in. “It’s an advanced medical potion, I need to turn it in to the hospital wing.” It was the most important assignment she’d have this year and she a good enough grade for this one thing would boost her overall score high enough to qualify her to take more advanced lessons. It could also get her an internship at St. Mungos over the summer which, if it went well, would just about assure her a top job there after graduation. This one potion was was the thing to get everything else on track, she wouldn’t have another opportunity like this until after she completed her OWLs.
Kyra shot her a smile. "Great, let's go!" Interesting, a medical potion. Her feet walked down the familiar path to the hospital wing. She didn't even need to remember the paths by now. She had been there multiple times, both on accident and on purpose. Like the time she was dared to touch the Whomping Willow's trunk. That admittedly wasn't her finest hour. Or the time she literally daydreamed during Quidditch practice and hit one of the goalposts. She was pretty sure that the only three rooms she had memorized in the entire castle was the hospital wing, the Gryffindor common room, and the detention room. She had a penchant for getting in trouble.
