They can be metaphorical ghosts, if you prefer. And a single ghost is entirely sufficient.

Cheryl (6of8) | 193 comments I have a couple of books where the title implies ghosts or could be construed that way (that's the lawyer in me talking). For instance, Sherlock Holmes and the Voice from the Crypt and The Valedictorian of Being Dead. What say you?

C | 31 comments It sounds like The Path of Thorns might have spookums in it? Tbd.
(Otherwise I'll just keep doing my Batman reread and count any of the multiple times Dead Robin!Jason shows up in visions and things. XD)

Yep, I counted it. I doubt I am done for the month, though.

For myself, I'm judging after reading. Those both sound promising, though.

Amy (amyml88) | 112 comments I was looking for something for this theme, and I found out that the author of a witchy series that I liked, Carol J. Perry, has started another series. I read Be My Ghost in September, and the 2nd one, High Spirits this month. If you like cozy paranormal mysteries, both of these series are a lot of fun.

Cheryl (6of8) | 193 comments I read Ghost Huntress 4: The Counseling -- teen/YA about a ghost huntress who is recovering from a traumatic encounter with a ghost and goes for counseling with a bunch of other teens with paranormal skills. I was gifted 48 copies of this book, so I figured I had to read one. I was surprised to actually enjoy it.

C | 31 comments My actual ghost story entry is Vespertine! Which features a LOT of different ghosts, and also possession/sharing a body (a trope I am inordinately fond of). I loved this book, I loved Artemisia and her weird ghost sidekick, it was recommended to me by a friend as being Extremely My Shit and she was not wrong.

Jacqie | 93 comments I loved Vespertine!

Cheryl (6of8) | 193 comments I am also going to add Tales of Korea: 53 Enchanting Stories of Ghosts, Goblins, Princes, Fairies and More!
I didn't select it as a ghost book, but there are definitely, as promised, ghosts and goblins and more in these stories -- just not quite how we would picture them in the Western tradition. That is, they are appearances of dead people and hauntings, but the Korean tradition of spiritual beliefs and folk culture make them very different.

Jacqie | 93 comments I read Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It's about a haunted film that is used for the wring reasons in 1990s Mexico City, with the usual consequences.

Part of me wants to read that because it sounds so dang cool. But the rest of me remembers how much I detested Signal to Noise.

The other two "ghost" books I read have more metaphorical ghosts. With Mona Awad, though, who the hell knows if anything is real or not. I did really enjoy both books, but they are radically different from each other. Cozy fantasy vs. surreal horror.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

Cheryl (6of8) | 193 comments Ooh, Irregular Witches is on my list

I started Ghost by Jason Reynolds but didn't finish it in October.

Jacqie | 93 comments I would not put Silver Nitrate in my top three by her. I like her more fantasy oriented books like Gods of Jade and Shadow, Mexican Gothic, and Certain Dark Things better. I keep looking at Irregular Witches and never quite deciding to read it.

I'm not sure if you'd like Irregular Witches or not. It spent a lot of time on the romance that I feel would have been better spent on witchiness. Maybe because I wasn't completely sold on the match. It was still a lot of fun, though.
