I didn't get much past Violet making it into the school and the initial assembly for the new recruits. So my inspiration isCajun Blackened Fish
1 tbsp paprika
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dry mustard
3/4 tsp salt (table salt)
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (or to taste)
Good grind of black pepper
4 firm white fish fillets (about 150g/5oz each) (Note 1)
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1. Combine spices in a shallow dish and mix.
2. Coat both sides of the fish fillets with the spices, shaking off excess.
3. Heat oil in a large heavy based skillet over medium high heat.
4. Add fish and cook until the rub turns black, then flip and cook the other side until the fish is cooked to your taste.
Alternate cooking technique: blowtorch, flamethrower, dragon breath.
Serve immediately.
Her name is Violet, so I shall drink parma violet flavour gin with lemonade. I didn’t go past chapter one, so that’s about as themed as I can get (and also happens to be a yummy drink I like).
This is more Star Trek related, but probably the last word on "what are we drinking?": https://www.instagram.com/p/Cte_hcHtfpE/I like this trend of showing song lyrics. I don't believe most people understand them otherwise.
I liked Jan's Dragon Punch recipe so I made it:
I didn't have Orgeat on hand so I made some of that too. Light roast almonds:

Then grind them:

Then steep for 3 hours, and warm with sugar to make a syrup. Add a bit or orange water after it has cooled.
I didn't like the sound of putting hot sauce in a cocktail because, vinegar, so I steeped a slice of jalapeno in the Mezcal for a few hours while the Orgeat was bathing.
Oh, I should add: it was good!

I love how much effort you went to, meanwhile, I read a cocktail recipe, and if the ingredients are readily available from my supermarket but not currently in my cupboard, I declare it to be way too much effort! lol
BTW: It seems there's a Viatnamese chicken breed called "Dragon Chicken" with enormous feet! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dong_Ta...

So any food, drink, snack or -well, anything really - that you are enjoying while reading this month's pick? Did you have anything inspired by the book? Is there any interesting food in it? Post away!
I've scoured the internet and there are a few "Dragon Wing" recipes out there (for example https://fauziaskitchenfun.com/recipe/... ) , so maybe share your favorite spicy chicken wing recipe and we may come up with our ultimate S&L "Dragon" wings!
As for a cocktail I have picked the "Dragon Punch":
1.5 oz smoky Mezcal
0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse
1 oz lime juice
0.5 oz Orgeat
2 dashes of red Hot Pepper Sauce
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass! Enjoy!
