I am nominating Aristotle Detective by Margaret Doody. It is the first in a series of mysteries that takes place in Ancient Greece.
I nominate Cloud Cockoo Land by Anthony Doerr. It alternates between a number of times and places, including modern America and ancient Constantinople as it describes the fall of the Byzantium Empire in 1453.
I would like to nominate Fortune's Child by James Conroyd Martin. It is about Empress Theodora, who reigned alongside her husband Justinian until her death in 548. The book is the first in a two-part series that chronicles her ascendance to the throne and her twenty years of ruling alongside her husband. Set in Byzantium.

August 1, 527 A.D. is credited as the date Emperor Justinian became the ruler of the Byzantine Empire. For our August group read, we are going to be reading books that take place somewhere in what was known as the Byzantine Empire. All books must be historical fiction and follow our 50 year historical fiction rule. Below is a link to a map of the Byzantine Empire for reference.

REMINDERS
NO SELF NOMINATIONS- Any member who self-nominates will have their post deleted and they will be removed from the group without warning.
BOOKS IN A SERIES MUST BE READ IN ORDER - If we have not yet read the first book in a series as a group, the second book cannot be nominated.
NOMINATION POST MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING THREE THINGS; TITLE, AUTHOR, AND COUNTRY BOOK IS SET IN -If your nomination post does not include all three of these things, it will not be counted. You do not have to link the book but you have to list all three of the requirements.
ALL MEMBERS GET ONE NOMINATION AND ONE SECOND - Please make sure you are clearing noting when you are seconding a book. Extra chatter and comments in the thread about the nominated books gets confusing for the moderators and makes it hard to keep track of which books should be included in the poll.
The full breakdown of the nomination process can be found here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check our "read" shelf. We have read nearly 200 books as a group. PLEASE make life easier for the moderators and double check to see if your nomination is on the shelf. The "read" shelf can be found here - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
This thread will be open until 6/30.
