July 2023 Word Search Scavenger Hunt
Begins: 01Julye23 / Ends: 31July23

.

Your challenge is to find the words/phrases shown below in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month.

You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!

NOTE - you may NOT use the book which is the source for the words in the scavenger hunt!

This month's scavenger list are words found in
A Good American by Alex George A Good American by Alex George

NOTE: You may NOT use this book for this month's scavenger hunt!

Basic word list
audience
banjo
entertainment
flood
hymn
journey
lovelorn
melody
note (music)
orchestra
pianist
quaint
rhythm
tempo
violin

Optional (BONUS) word list
clarinet
influenza
ragtime
syncopated
wallop

=============================================================

Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So, if you are looking for "vivid" - I will NOT allow "vividly."

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio, or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon’s “look inside" feature to get a page number for your quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.

EXAMPLE of a successful post:

beggar - Hiroshima ✔ – 26Mar23 - pg 34 - "He looked like a beggar."

Have Fun!

Robin P | 239 comments I'm impressed that people keep working on older lists. My brain doesn't have enough bandwidth for more than one season/month at a time. Most of my books are print or audio, so I can't just do a quick search like you can in ebooks.

I created a word document with the current month's words ... AND also any left over from previous months. I print it out and stick in the book I'm reading, so I can easily remember / recognize a word when I come across it. And I use the "search inside" (or now called "read a sample") feature on amazon to double check.

That's what I do too. I was wondering where the search feature went on Amazon.

Robin P | 239 comments I thought the search inside/read a sample only gave you a chapter or two. Plus I don't think older books have that option, only those that are on Kindle.

You can use it for any book. Try changing to a hardcover edition or a paperback edition. There are some books that don't have the option. And some only have the choice to use kindle.

For those books, I also check Google Books "preview" option. (Again, not all books represented, and sometimes you don't get page numbers.)
