My name is Eve Yang, and I am a newly published author that has a deep interest in the mental health field, and more specifically, child psychiatry! I recently published my first book, Anorexia Nervosa: My Story and the Science Behind It on Amazon!
This book combines narrative and scientific analysis sections through the perspective of Olive, a fourteen year old girl, who finds herself confined in her house with all the time in the world to think about two things she had previously managed to set aside--her weight and appearance. Through her own recovered perspective, she recounts her experiences and provides her readers with scientific explanations behind anorexia, an illness that she battles with throughout the book.
Here is a little sneak peak at a part of the book:
While other patients received their supplements for what they didn’t finish, I smiled proudly at my empty plate, feeling full and satisfied. But a part of my mind screamed. I was going to gain weight. I was going to be fat.
As we all stood up from our chairs and headed back to our rooms, I stole one last glance at Jane, realizing how sick she looked. Could she not see how thin she was? Could she not tell she no longer looked beautiful?
When I returned to my room, I sat down on my small wood-framed bed. The nurses had placed a large soft foam mattress on top of the harder one. They were afraid that without it I would bruise–that my own bones would hurt me. I looked down at my legs and arms, and, for the first time, I realized that they were just as stick thin as Jane’s.
