Enjoyed this book three years ago maybe. Set in a big city with bodegas. Two younger (college age maybe) characters spend most of the time texting but do meet in person. They find it easier to just text. The female character starts traveling but always comes back to male character, who works in a restaurant that he sleeps above.

I think this is “Emergency Contact” by Mary H.K. Choi. The two main characters are college age, and mostly communicate over text messages, which they prefer to do even after seeing each other in person. The guy lives above the coffee shop where he works, so this sounds like your book!
