jvickery88 | 120 comments Let's do it - Guards Guards it is

message 8: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Any ideas for next testing books? almost finished with guards too, so we can decide on next novel too if you like?

message 9: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments I haven't thought about next books yet. But I will)) need to check our "want to read" shelf here.
and regarding a novel: we can choose smth from the list we already have in this topic. And I have one more book to add to it: "Verity" by Colleen Hoover

message 10: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments guards guards was my promotion, so you can choose the next one :D

message 12: by jvickery88 (new)

message 13: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments 200 hundred pages and this book is from my "scratch book map" - looks like a good choice))

message 14: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments btw here we have all the books that we both have in "want to read":
https://www.goodreads.com/user/compar...

message 15: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments and there is a link in the right upper corner - "book compatibility test"!! cooool

message 16: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments From our technical to-read I would prefer one of these:
- Bridging the Communication Gap
- Would Heu-risk it? (this one more than others probably)
- The Leading Brain
- Leading Quality

message 17: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments I posted our to-read list, in the qa-book-club channel but no responses yet.. Happy to go with you on the heu-risk it one if there are no votes there

message 18: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Just one thing about this book - I can't find it anywere. There is only hardcover version on amazon and it costs 90$

message 19: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Beata gave a vote for heu-risk-it too..

message 20: by Nasta_lm (last edited Aug 25, 2023 03:55AM) (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Or there is one, but it's unavailable for my region https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0C8GMGG87?t...

message 21: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments I'll try find a pdf. Worst case scenario I can take pics of my copy? (I bought paperback a while back on training budget)

message 22: by Nasta_lm (last edited Aug 25, 2023 04:03AM) (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments I'll try to search more too. And yeah, it's not a very big book, pics will be ok I guess If nothing else is found

message 23: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Oh, Sorry, I was looking at the wrong amazon 🤪
There is kindle wersion for 22$, still too much in my opnion, but better than 90😅

message 24: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments 22 is ridiculous... ok let me purchase on my training budget for you

message 25: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Let me search more, I don't know how to return money to you in UK😅

message 26: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments you don't need to return! it can be our 'book club' budget

message 27: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments If I purchase the kindle version - how can I get it over to you? any way of downloading it somehow and sharing?

message 28: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Well, If you sure, I'll be very greateful😊
It should be possible to download the file from kindle I think. Before buying let me check it with some my kindle book

message 29: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments How is the voting in the slack going?

message 30: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments So far only Beata mentioned heu-risk-it ..I don’t mind doing that one too. It’s bank holiday here so now work today but will check tomorrow and then most likely we’ll do heu-risk-it I think

message 31: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Hey Anastasiya, looks like it's heu-risk-it .. catch you on Thursday!

message 32: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Ah also, I am speaking with HR about some shared account where book club members can access the books we have.. I'm not sure of the best way around this (sounds like a business idea)

message 33: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments For now I haven't found this book anywhere except Amazon. So If you have time and it's not much trouble for you, could you please make photos of the first chapter for me?

message 34: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments of course!

message 35: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Maybe animal farm? Looks short and is on both our to-read lists? ..or maybe this Tuesday with morrie one? (I need something short and completely different after fear and loathing)

message 36: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Both of them sounds good. But they are two really different things i suppose: Tuesddays is about good in life, and animal farm is about the worst. So we should make a choice depending on the mood we want))

message 37: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments I was going to say, let’s go with which one is more happy..but I read description of Tuesdays with Morrie it’s about a dying man ..😭😪

message 38: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments From our previous variants those two should be positive:
- Terry Brooks for sale/magic kingdom - 324 pages
- Legends and lattes - 296 pages
From our common to-read:
- Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson - 386 pages but it's a begining of the series
- The Midnight Library - 304

And we have a lot of classics in common to-read

message 39: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Shall we take a short classic then? I’ll check out your list

message 40: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments I've noticed you started "invisible monsters". Maybe we can take it for the book club?

message 41: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments I just started it because it’s there on my shelf at home ..I bought it with fear and loathing only 50pence

I’m on chapter 4 it’s pretty good and gripping already. I intended to read on the side with our book club but don’t mind doing it for book club :)

message 42: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments it's in my to-read too, so why not))

message 43: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Ok sure :)

message 44: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments I was going to read this book soon: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
What do you think about taking it for book club?
Si-fi about aliens

message 45: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Just checked it out, I marked as to-read. It seems quite long, almost 500 pages, but considering our current testing book will take some time, I don't mind starting this one. I'll check if my library has it.

Can you believe I went there yesterday, to start chipping away at my to-read list, with the popular classics. I wanted something short because I am moving house on 1st Oct, so I wanted something to finish quickly before the move - otherwise I'd have to travel all the way back to give the book back.

Anyways, of all of the books they only had 'of mice and men' - I went to scan it to take it out, and the machine said 'not found on database' .. After trying again, one of the librarians came up to me and tried to enter it manually and he couldn't. He then told me, oh its an old book you can't take it because it's not on our db... even though he's holding it in his hand........ so i left empty handed after spending 30 mins looking around for books :(

They don't even have any hemmingway books there, literally nothing from my to-read list .. I found frankenstein but their edition was huge. I don't recall the book being that long.

Anyways, I had to get that off my chest...

It seems they have more of a focus on kids books (huuuuge section) and the modern books. So hopefully they'll have this one.

message 46: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments It's long but it's being read quite smooth and fast actually. And it has plot and it's not weird)))
New house! Sounds exiting!)
No classics in the library???? What kind of library is that?
Frankenstein is not long, I've read it previous Autumn. Didn't like it though :D

message 47: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments Ah! have you started it already??

Yeah Frankenstein is so ollllld I imagine it's such a difficult read. I had a copy when I was young but never read it. I need to pay a visit to my mums house to get some of my books I left there.

And yeah new house, exciting ... moving house, not so much ...I hate moving..

message 48: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments Yeah, I've read a bit. I needed to switch to smth quickly after the invisible monsters))

Yeah, it was not easy reading. I wrote a review but it contains spoilers)

Moving is hard, I know. I envy people who can easily move from house to house, from country to county. Though I like to go through my things and arrange them on the new shelves)) But packing them! horrible. Good luck)

message 49: by jvickery88 (new)

jvickery88 | 120 comments yeah, in the new place we are renting it has a garden and 3 bedrooms. Currently we have 2 and it's a small apartment. So I have plans to turn the 3rd room into my own space. No one can enter. It will be a cosy library ...I hope haha

message 50: by Nasta_lm (new)

Nasta_lm | 137 comments garden! so nice!
one's own cosy room - sounds like a dream) always wanted such a room
