The Order is a secret society of vigilantes that stand up to the injustice of the Wizarding World. They campaigning for equal rights for muggleborns and halfbloods and fight the bigoted Death Eaters who are becoming more and more politically accepted. It was set up 15 years ago by Albus Dumbledore and has been led by him ever since. They work from the shadows and often perform rescue operations as well as forming attacks against Lord Voldemort.
