Lisa | 39 comments The Spot books were the favorite series of my daughter until she was about 6.

Laura H | 27 comments My kids (and I) did enjoy the Spot books as children, too.

I watched the Joyful soul link, which was fun to see for the lifting the flat parts, of course. My favorites were the (view spoiler) Both wikipedia entries were interesting. I didn't realize this was the first of this type of book (Pat the bunny just seems older- I now realize), and to think he thought of it by watching his son-pretty cool!
Never even knew Spot had TV and other shows.

As an elementary Special Ed. teacher, my classroom library had a wide reading level range of books. In storytime with younger students, the Spot books were always a favorite. What I loved were the times I would see the 4th and 5th graders reading the Spot books and often reading it to one of the younger students.

Blue | 12 comments How old are the Spot books? I had never heard of them. My sons liked Curious George, Hardy Boys. I am thinking these Spot books offer great fun.

Laura, you are right. Although Where's Spot? may have popularized lift the flap books, Pat the Bunny is much older. It was written in 1940 and had 1 or 2 flaps included in the original 7 activities. I find it hard to believe that there weren't other flap books in the following four decades before Where's Spot? was published in 1980.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 3 comments I remember reading this with my kids when they were little. It is very engaging. I just reread this today and still find it charming. I was not as impressed with some of the other books in the series that I also read. The language was not as simple and the flaps did not hide a whole image, just part of things. They were cute but did not have the same charm.
